: Is it level with just a leveling kit or is green keys still needed?
Mgreen4117 06-21-2006, 06:59 PM Hey, I got a 02' HD and I currently have the torsion bars cranked and its just not level enough for me. So I am thinking about getting the cognito leveling kit. However I have been reading the posts on here and have gotten the impression that the leveling kit alone will not level the truck and that the green keys were needed in addition. Is this true? Thanks alot for the help!!!
billcar9999 06-21-2006, 07:28 PM I've been reading the same stuff. I can't see enough difference in the A arm pictures to say that it's any different than stock. So, if I just add the Cognito kit and don't change anything else, will the front be two inches higher? Do you really get the ride quality back?
Thanks,
Bill
Duromax04 06-21-2006, 07:41 PM Whats a cognito kit?
smucowboy 06-21-2006, 08:21 PM Cognito leveling kits are designed to "enhance" the geometry of your front suspension when you turn the stock (or replace them with green) keys on your truck. Simply adding a congnito kit, will not change the ride height of your vehicle because this kit still relies on you to turn the t-bars to acheive the lift.
Mgreen4117: if your truck's stock keys are already maxed out and you cannot achieve a leveled look, then you can switch to the green keys to add some additional height. However, keep in mind that the higher you lift your truck with the t-bars, the rougher the ride is going to get and the steeper the cv angles will be. Some of the ride harshness may be improved with new shocks and/or a congnito kit, but it will never be stock.
smucowboy 06-21-2006, 08:22 PM One more thought Mgreen4117, if you bought your truck used with the t-bars done, check the back springs for blocks. You may be able to pull the blocks to get your truck leveled out.
Mgreen4117 06-21-2006, 08:52 PM Thanks alot guys!!! I'm glad to know that before I drop 500 for a kit that won't level it. However, I am kinda wanting to stay away from canking the torsion bars, because I don't like the premature wear on suspension and the tight cv angles. Does anyone know of a kit that actually levels the front of the truck similar to the way a lift does. This way I wouldn't have to touch the torsion bars. Thanks everyone.

4" Rancho or Tough Country lift kit. May not be the answer you're looking for.
Mgreen4117 06-22-2006, 12:32 AM Well I was kinda just wondering if anyone made an actual leveling kit. Cause i dont really wanna do anything to the rear of the truck, just wanna level it up.
smucowboy 06-22-2006, 12:37 AM Cognito is the most complete kit that is aimed at leveling the truck. ORU also makes a kit, but it amounts to only green keys and shocks (which is sufficient to get a leveled truck). As far as the Rancho/Tuff Country option, you could install only the front part of this kit, turn down the t-bars a little (which would have the added benefit of giving a straight line on the cv's) and it will be leveled without changing the back. The biggest drawback here is $$$$$$$. Also, many people on this forum have reported that the 4" lifts don't even look like they are lifted. Not sure if that matters to you or not.

As I have mentioned several times, some trucks do not need the green keys to be raised 2+ inches, while others, (Like mine!) will not raise more then 1/2-3/4 inche without the green keys. Maybe you have one of the trucks that require the green keys. Also some food for thought. A regular cab will be much lighter then a crew cab, so that maybe part of the equation.:)
But this is the only way of bringing the front up level with the back. You could lower the rear -:t -:t -:t -:t -:t But these trucks already set way too low from the factory.
