Was just looking over the warranty report on my truck, and saw that the previous owner had the Steering Wheel inflator module replaced?? The # next it was C8835. Someone explain it to me? Thanks-Adam

It would be the inflatable restraint module for the air bag.
I'm guessing, can you tell http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

Yup, it's the air bag in the steering wheel.

Thats interesting.....how would you even know something was wrong w/it, unless it just blew out on its own???

The sensing and diagnostic module is constantly monitoring the circuits for the air bags. As soon as something is wrong it is disabled and a code is set.

Here's an air bag tip. The SDM keeps a 23 volt charge for up to a minute after battery voltage is gone to deploy the air bags in case voltage is disrupted during a crash.

alrgiht, so if something was wrong, how would the driver tho???????? Would it flash in the little info center? Or is there a light in the cluster that would blink?

That would mean a SES would illuminate telling you a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) is stored ....

Or in later years a message in your drivers Info center ...

If there is a problem with the SIR system you will see this indicator stay on.

Alright heres another development....i noticed the last few times i started my pickup today, the little airbag guy would bling several times then go off....i didnt notice it doing this before today. Nothing ever came up in the info center. Is this standard w/and i was just oblivious(sp) to it before now, or is this a sign of it going again....2nd the last few days my pickup has been making that little rubbing noise in the steering wheel at low speeds, would it be possible that this rubbing might be causing continous problems w/the air bag, if indeed there is a problem again w/my airbag...Thanks again guys...-Adam

Polarbear,

Surely someone here will correct me if I'm wrong, but every vehicle I've driven with an airbag has a warning light that'll blink momentarily on startup.

I think it should blink seven times.
