: What are the "must have" options?
nextel_cup_fan 06-21-2006, 03:35 AM FNGuy, been looking, lurking, searching.
If getting 2500HD, D/A, LBZ, CC, SB
What else to get...or not get?
3.73 ratio?
what's the quality of leather interior? (worth the money?)
bench seat (keep 6 seat capacity?)
Chevy, GMC?
intersted in opinions AND reasons
also will be looking for a GMID# when I'm ready to buy, hope someone can help
with the talk of the emissions stuff for 07, is now the time to buy?
I'm already leaning towards leather, power seat, 3.73, NO onstar, NO moonroof, heated mirrors, off road susp pkg, but want to ask around
Hi and thanks
Reineke 06-21-2006, 03:45 AM Redundant steering wheel controls. They gain you access to extra features in the DIC that you wouldn't be able to get to with non steering wheel controls. Options I would order again would be the automatic climate control. Cloth seats hold up better over time in my opinion, but you don't get the heated seats either, so it is a toss up. GM isn't really known for high quality leather seats... Also, with the bucket seats, you get a 6.5" subwoofer inside the console and when mixed with the Bose speakers, sounds pretty nice for factory. I like the 6 disc changer, mine is full of discs but choose to listen to satellite radio the majority of the time. I did not get XM, but added Sirius as I prefer their programming to XM. 3.73:1 is the only ratio available with the Dmax/Alli combo. :welcome: to the Place. Plenty to learn on here!!
cas300D 06-21-2006, 03:57 AM I am about to order an 07 classic before the body change and emission changes, I am going with a cloth bench seat, I still get the Bose system with the 300 upgrade just not the sub correct? LT1 1LT w/UC6
Reineke 06-21-2006, 03:59 AM Yeah, I don't think the sub comes with a bench seat. No where for it to hide.
jss1065 06-21-2006, 11:15 AM XM and steering wheel controls are a nice feature
nextel_cup_fan 06-21-2006, 12:21 PM did anyone get the leather interior and is happy with it?
also thought they came with either 3.73 or 3.42, my mistake.
anything I should avoid? (like onstar)
SaguaroKid 06-21-2006, 01:17 PM I think you can put after market seat heaters on the cloth seats?
duramex 06-21-2006, 01:24 PM Locking diff and victory red:D
junkyardrules 06-21-2006, 03:01 PM I would definitely get the large camper style mirrors. Better visibility and much cheaper to order with them on opposed to adding them later.

:welcome2:
3.73 is standard ratio with Duramax / Allison. That' what I've got in mine, pulls 14,000 lb. fifth wheel trailer great.
I have what's now know as the LT3 interior; includes leather seats and almost everything else. The leather seats are of good quality and are holding up well. I use seat covers if I'm at the river or out riding.
Unless you have a specific need for the bench seat, I like the buckets; the power lumbar and side bolster adjustments make the seats really comfortable on long trips. Being the big wuss that I am, I like the heated seat feature on cold mornings!):h
Branding is a matter of style preference; I believe the trucks have the same features and are mechanically identical. I have a Chevy.
If not allready included with the Duramax / Allison, be sure you spec the locking differential.
jss1065 06-21-2006, 03:45 PM I just but another truck and it has Onstar. It seems like a pretty cool feature. I don't see anything wrong with it. I will see how it works when I actually need it (i.e. locking keys in truck, flat tire, run out of gas ):h). I think after the free year runs out I will just let it go.
JSS, isn't that what a cell phone is for? $1000 extra plus subscription service for something you can do yourself for free.
2006LBZ 06-21-2006, 07:57 PM Nextel fan, where are you located?
Must have: (including option codes)
Steering wheel controls UK3, access the DIC and just very convenient
(UK3 is available w/o the OnStar/XM package if you want, $125 option)
Locking Rear G80, helps with traction, and good luck reselling it w/o G80!
Spare Tire Lock SAF, theft prevention for just $15.00
Trailer Hitch Z82, obvious reasons of course
Camper Mirrors DPN, far superior to the smaller mirrors, I've had both...
The leather is nice, but like all leather, it will show the cracks/lines with age. They have improved some over the years, it was bad a few years ago. Very comfy, and makes for easy cleaning also. Heated seats are nice! (heated only with SLT....SLE with leather upgrade has NO heaters)
Bose stereo is nice if you like good sound, and is standard on SLT
If you are looking at Chevy's, replace "SLT" with LT3 trim level.
bigdogdd 06-21-2006, 08:37 PM I have the LT3 interior; includes leather seats and almost everything else. The leather seats nice and the buckets are very comfy! I also like the heated seats in the winter when you get up early to go hunting..:)

 yeah that's what i thought. That is why i am using my free year and then terminating the subscription. You get one year free when you buy a new vehicle equipped with Onstar.
michael nelson 06-21-2006, 09:21 PM JSS, isn't that what a cell phone is for? $1000 extra plus subscription service for something you can do yourself for free.wow! so how you gonna find your cell phone after a 60mph reck?hmmmmm?onstar works and calls you when the airbags deploy.....IMO-onstar a must!
jss1065 06-21-2006, 09:36 PM Michael, do you know what the price is on the basic "safe and sound" service per year?
michael nelson 06-21-2006, 09:38 PM 200 and some change...16 bucks a month(I think) so compare that to other forms of insurance and not to mention peice of mind and then decide-
jss1065 06-21-2006, 09:42 PM Yeah that is not bad at all for a year.

I have leather and love it. Good quality and very comfortable. The dual power seats are nice as are the towing mirror options. I tow so I had to have them.
3.73 in my G80 RPO code differential. I could have gone higher but didn't need the taller gears for towing.
just my .02 worth... ;)

OK, so I'll be living off M&M's and rainwater if I go off the side of a mountain. (If I survive). I forgot about that automatic emergency callback thingy.

Glad you like the 3.73 gears....they are the only choice with a Duramax. :)
The other thing is most diesels will have the locker (g80) as it is part of the Heavy Duty Power Package. If a duramax has an open rear end, then that means the truck is priced too high because it wont have the savings package.

I think after the free year runs out I will just let it go. That free year cost you a thousand dollars I think.
The locking rear is a definite, just didn't post it as well as the OOR tires. and 4WD
Timing may work out in my favor, Dodge just announced employee pricing in July, Ford and GM will probably have to match.
aka108 06-22-2006, 01:12 AM There was a time I would have considered the WorkTruck as a loaded with options luxury vehicle. After owning quite a few vehicles, adding a few more options with each, you get used to them and then they become essential. You might just as well bite the bullet and load the thing down with the options. The GM leather is not as good a quality as you'll find in a MB or similar but it's not all that bad either. Just keep it conditioned and it will wear well.
