I read a post the other day about can a Cummins handle the same power as a DMAX? Yes. Cummins designed the engine to handle 450 hp and 900 ftlbs torque. Dodge determined what the hp of the engine would be in their trucks. I don't know how well Cummins would stand behind it, but I was told by a large Cummins dealer that they could turn up my 2001 Dodge to 450 / 900 and still keep the warranty. Cummins sells these same engins to other industries also. Aggreko uses thousands of them for ele generators. Dodge could spec for a 450 hp engine with 900 ftlbs of torque but they don't have a drive train to handle it. Cummins has a engine for whatever Dodge can handle. I would be scared to put a 450 hp DMAX in a truck with a GCVWR of 30,000 or more lbs. I know that Dodge doesn't make such a truck but others do and use the 5.9 Cummins. When it comes to RPM, I've seen the Cummins run 1800 for for weeks and even 3600 in a generator. Cummins is not perfict by far. Then again no engine is 100%.

My question is, What do you need 450hp and 900ft/lbs for brother? hahaha, plan on relocating your city? haha. This is just my own little personal opinon from past experience with gasoline cars.... But I just flat out don't modify vehicles anymore other than tires, appearence accessories and maybe exhaust. Although it is VERY impressive to see a 3/4 1 ton diesel truck smoke a Z28 Camaro in the 1/4 mile http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
These diesel engines are just flat out able to make MORE power then the truck can handle. Edited by: gbcop

I agree. I don't plan doing any engine mods to 04 Cummins. It has plenty of power for my needs. I grew out of drag racing a few years ago. Although it is fun to leave a sports car sitting at the red light. My cummins is stoke and will stay that way. The Cummins can handle power, if you want to spend the money to tap into it. I had a friend who sank mega bucks into an 01, 3500 4x4 6sp. Twin turbos, injectors, program, with over 500 hp it was impressive. Smoke the tires in 3rd gear from a stand still. I've seen Dodges that are daily drivers with over 900hp. These guys are sled pulling. That is some serious power and black smoke.
Same story with gassers. Fun = $$
