On my '94 do I need a serp. belt for it to start?

I have not spent ANY money on this truck yet because I wanted to be sure the engine at least "could" run, so I don't have a belt on it. I have a spare belt that came with the truck, but I have no diagram to show the routing. Every way I tried left the belt WAY too long, so I think it's the wrong one.

Any way, is there some reason not having the belt on would cause a no-start?

Thanks,

Bill

No. Only run it for a miniute though. It will overheat with no belt to turn the waterpump.

I'm not even that concerned with starting it. I just want fuel to come out the lines. I'm working on getting a PMD to change out.

Just thought I'd ask incase the comp. needed an RPM signal from the ALT. or something. It was a long shot...

Thanks,

Bill

PCM gets RPM signal from crankshaft position sensor. Alt only feeds gauge.
