I was at a restraunt last night and a 01 or 02 Dmax owner was parked next to me and we where both going to our trucks at the same time. We both had the intial nice truck conversation, yeah love my truck b.s. then he mentioned he had a box and I said I as well. Then he said he had a upgraded turbo throught garett. When I asked what kind he said he didn't know for sure because he just drives them not works on them. But he knows it churns about 45 psi on max boost http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif I thought there were no such animals for our trucks. Little help would be great!

on edit I got the guys number cuz he wants to go to the track one night!Edited by: DURAMAXED03

Better call him and go look under the hood for yourself. Would be interested to see what you find.

Clipped blades tend to help spoolup in lower to mid boost area, and prevent barking. The main problem with clipped vanes is it also limits your top end boost volume.

The IHI is actually a well designed unit, but with the fuel we can put out using boxes alone, a larger unit would be better.

A Ball Bearing turbo 1.5 times larger would invoke a slight lag penalty and increase egt's in the low end until sufficient load/fuel is present to spool it.

Towing twins whereby we could keep the stock charger and a larger unit for top end *compounded might be the way to go

Oh.....on another note, called Howard (Mr. upgraded turbo) no callbacks yet. Told him there are probably a few hundred people I know (being members on this forum we're all kindred) that'd be very interested in this. Maybe I spooked him? Maybe I'm just impatienthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I think ATS is racing their new DMAX "Aurora" unit in Vegas this weekend. DHRA event. Clint indicated he had a little more testing to do but general release should be soon.

I called on "new" IHI center section. It is only a replacement cartriage for rebuilding. NO performance gain at all.

Changed the compressor wheel and did some machine & port work to the IHI cartridge.

The variable geometry turbo on the LLY engines is a Garrett AVNT37 (AVNT stands for Advanced Variable Nozzle Turbine). The AVNT37 would physically fit on an LB7 engine, but the turbine outlet configuration is different and would require a change to the turbine outlet pipe, as would the compressor inlet connections. Then there is the issue of controlling the turbo… All in all, it is unlikely that this turbo would be installed on an LB7 without major electronics upgrades, etc.
