: Aurora 5000
Lars Sundin 06-19-2006, 01:58 PM Hi
I have 2002 model Duramax
I have Aurora 5000, ATS head studs, ATS upgraded gearbox, Transgo, ATS 110hp injector nozzles, AFE stage 2 air intake, Fass 150 fuel delivery pump, Edje Juice, and Diablo Predator
When changing drom stock charger to Aurora 5000 the truck went slower instead of faster... 0-60 went from 5.8 second till 9!!
Can this have something to do with the slower spool up on Aurora 5000 than the smaller stock charger?
Anyone got any ideas??
:help:

dmaxalliTech 06-19-2006, 02:30 PM Tuning needs to be addressed with that combo as the Edge and Predator are not intended for use on a truck with that setup.
Lars Sundin 06-19-2006, 02:42 PM Ok, thanks for the quick answer...
But what to do?
have invested SO much money in my truck by now, if you think the upgrades are expensive in the US, imagine in Europe after beeing shipped over here and several vendors involved, have costed me a fortune...
If you have any ideas what for me to do i would be SO happy since no one over here have any experience.
Take Care
Lars
dmaxalliTech 06-19-2006, 03:02 PM I would contact somebody that does custom tuning. Your combination is nothing new and while it may take a bit it can be tuned pretty good even long distance.
There are a few on here doing tuning using EFILive, that may be an option for you also.
Kennedy 06-19-2006, 07:47 PM Unless you are pulling or racing, I'd go back to the stock turbo. The A5K needs to be run hard to make power.
NODMAX 06-19-2006, 07:51 PM Unless you are pulling or racing, I'd go back to the stock turbo. The A5K needs to be run hard to make power.
He was talking about his 60' times being slower, I would assume he's racing this truck. Why don't you hook him up with a JK Super Tune?
nwpadmax 06-19-2006, 08:25 PM Unless you are pulling or racing, I'd go back to the stock turbo. The A5K needs to be run hard to make power.
:exactly:
The Hot Juice (and other big programs) with the stock turbo and built tranny were a real hoot to drive around town.
Mild tunes with the A5k are pretty lazy, although if you hammer it, it will somewhat come to life.
The big programs spool it great, but it's rather wild, kinda like driving a thumb tack with a sledgehammer.

How are you timing your 0-60?
Are you starting from an idle and just stomping the pedal to the floor?
Or are you holding the brake with one foot and applying throttle with the other so that it builds boost first then stomping the pedal to the floor?
Lars Sundin 06-20-2006, 12:57 AM Yes, i depress brake pedal at same time as i try to boostin up.
I have tested 0-60 with the performance test on the Edge.
With the stock charger all four wheels spun..
Maybe i should change the settings in the Edge or try to take advantage of another programmer than Predator.
Can it be a fuel issue? Maybe helps to upgrade with a twin CP3?
Thanks for all your help
Lars
Max Power 06-20-2006, 01:00 AM When I had the edge I found that when you press the gas and your foot is on the brakes it starts timing right then. That will throw off your 0-60 times a lot.
Diesel Power 06-21-2006, 03:08 AM i seemed to need between 15 and 20psi at the track on the A5K to get it to spool well.. launching it the way i launched my stock turbo went slower on the 60's
brett6.6 06-21-2006, 08:20 AM same here nick i was leaving with about 10-12 on the stocker and and would scream coming out of the hole, the a5k with about 10 feels very sluggish and the 60's show it 1.8x when usually low 1.7x are typical for my truck.
subman631 06-21-2006, 11:01 AM Lars you kind of sound like me, I put a bunch of mods on my truck last year and I didn't talk to anyone who could really help me. I have since totally redone my truck, and with a little help from my friends it runs pretty good. First thing I agree the Edge will not time you with any accuracy. It will start timing before you launch if you are braking for boost. Second, unless you have done something to your CP-3 I doubt the big injectors are doing you much good except to make smoke. Have you checked your rail pressure at WOT? I'll bet it is way below what is being commanded. I have twins so I don't have any experience with the A5000. I saw Nick last weekend in Redding drag racing and pulling and it appeared to take a bit to spool that charger. When it lit it was really something. I would agree that getting the EFI would be a great benefit to you. You can log your data to see what your engine is doing. After some experience you can start tuning your truck. There are many here that would help you. Good Luck...Ken
Lars Sundin 06-21-2006, 11:14 AM Thanks for all the help you are giving me.
Today i have purchased a twin cp3 from ATS and a PPE Hot Excelerator.
Will also purchase a EFi Live and hopefully this will help me to improve my 0-60 and take advantage of all the power.
Here in Sweden we are only two guys competing in sledpulling but i thinks its growing, the big problem is that everything is SO expensive here compared to the US so the truck have costed me a fortune :)

Lars if you don't mind me asking, how much money do you have in your truck? You might be the new high dollar man. Good luck with the new CP's that should fuel those injectors nicely. Have you retorqued your head studs since they were installed? I didn't do that after mine were installed and I blew a head gasket on propane and water/meth. All of that stuff is gone now.
:grd: :grd:
Lars Sundin 06-21-2006, 12:06 PM Well, the truck costed 70.000 dollar new in Sweden plus VAT
But i got it from insurance company when it was brand new with a damage, paid 10.000 Dollar for it
Then the truck was modified at a icelandic company, fender flares, the 35" wheels, the lift kit. That costed me over 12000 dollars total
The upgrades of drivetrain have costed me appr. 35.000 Dollar plus labor
I run a pretty big junkyard for trucks in Sweden, feel free to visit the site www.rackstad.com (http://www.rackstad.com)
Lars
Lars Sundin 06-21-2006, 12:10 PM And i have not retorqued my studs..maybe i should..
can you imagine what they charged me in labor for replacing head studs and head gaskets?
5000 dollar, iīd better move to the US :)

Pretty cool site, glad I found the english link. You junkyard guys are all rich.;) Replacing head gaskets in the USA is not cheap either, been there done that. If there are only two of you that do sled pulling in Sweden, it must make for a very short event? Do you have regular tractor sled pulls? Do they use a sled like we do here in the states? Your yard looks very big and much neater than the ones you see here in the states. Take care..Ken
Lars Sundin 06-21-2006, 12:51 PM Yeah its pretty big, we take care appr. 300 trucks every year, mostly new models from brand new till six years old.
Itīs a really interesting job and you can schedule everything yourself.
Yes we have tractorpulling in sweden, itīs pretty big over here as well.
The most powerful tractors have 5-6 supercharged Hemi or Keith Black motors putting out more than 2800hp/each.
And we arepulling a sled just like you guys do.
But the truckpulling is not at the same level as you have, maybe in a few years we can reach up to similar hp as you have
I want to visit some meeting with sledpull or racing in the Us and maybe have the chance to see Kyle Michael pull, any ideas on some date or location?
Lars
SmokeShow 06-21-2006, 01:53 PM A link to Kyle's website, Crank It Up Diesel Performance, is in the Vendors list and he has a schedule of all the events he plans on making it to this season.

Catch a flight to Indianapolis, Indiana this weekend :D . I am sure someone would be happy to pick you up at the airport.

Any updates? Did you get that twin cp3 installed?
Lars Sundin 07-28-2006, 01:07 PM Hi There
Yesterday i installed my Socal fuel pickup and mounted a bigger fuel line to the engine, is there any reason to change it all the way to the engine control unit? Because the fuel lines to the injectors are smaller anyway so i am thinking that they will restrict the flow anyway no matter how big fuel lines i have to the control unit. Am i right?
On Monday i will get a Eaton E locker and PPe Hot Xcelerator++ and the twin CP3 so i will install it the same day, cant wait any more now :)
Also invested in a EFi Live but the program seems to be hard to understand so maybe i will bring it to some engine programmer here in Sweden who is more skilled, i am a novis in that area.
Hopefully my chevy will be fast enought on the tracks in August, i have signed up for a big upcoming dragracing event here....

Joel6.0 07-31-2006, 01:30 PM You can have a custom tune from a vendor on here to get your truck to it's highest potential. If you scan and data log for someone, I'm sure they can make a nice tune for you
subman631 08-01-2006, 01:51 AM Well Lars you obviously have well over a six figure Duramax by now, by that I mean a truck with well over a $100,000 invested. I would go ahead and replace the fuel line while I'm at it just for no other reason than bigger is better. The twin CP's will provide all the fuel you need. Please let us know how it all works together. Not sure about what you are doing for a tuner. I know nothing about the PPE but have heard good reports. Good luck
Lars Sundin 08-02-2006, 01:49 PM I will install my twin CP3 tomorrow
I have a problem when trying to use my predator or my Hot Excelerator+2
Purchased my predator a year ago and it´s been working perfect until i had my truck at a local chevy dealer for replacing head studs.
I was sure that the predator was broken so i purchased the Hot Excelerator
a week ago, when trying to upload a new tune i get a error message saying error, cant communicate with the ecm
And my Predator saying access denied
I can clear trouble codes on both of them without problems but i can´t get the predator to upload the tune after selecting 120hp or 60hp, stock etc.
Do you have any ideas?
Lars
C.A.P 08-02-2006, 02:30 PM might have to pull some fuses , tcb bat , tcb ignit, audio amp, radio , accessories, they may have reflashed it , Did you ask ?
SmokeShow 08-02-2006, 02:55 PM A reflash is what came to mind for me too.
If a person left a non-stock tune in the truck, went to the dealership and it get reflashed, what happens?
Can he reflash the tune he had in there, back in there or would it be lost? Basically, is the tune still gonna be in the handheld part of the tuner or is it more like "cut and pasting" a tune to the ECM when you flash with an aftermarket tuner?
Sorry to have side tracked a little bit but I guess it still pertains Lars' situation.
C-ya
Lars Sundin 08-03-2006, 03:10 AM As it is today, the trucks tune is set to 60hp on the predator and i can not change it because when i try to upload the stock tune or another tune a get this message saying access denied
Will it help to unplug some fuses and the batteries for a while?
Or maybe i should take it to the dealer and they can help me?
Lars
Blitz636 08-04-2006, 12:00 AM Dealers in Sweden RULE.
If I asked my local dealer for help with a power adder; he'd laugh me right out the front door.... ):h
subman631 08-04-2006, 12:46 AM Lars you have to get everything back to stock and start over. As was mentioned it sounds like you may have had a reflash done when you had other than the stock tune installed. One of these tuner guru's might be able to help.
Lars Sundin 08-04-2006, 12:50 AM Yesterday i tried to reflash it with the EFI Live but somehow not even the EFI can communicate with the ECM for a reflash or to change any setting.
Really need to get ít working again, will call the dealership today and maybe they can scan the system for a malfunction and replace the ecm if i have to
Lars
Lars Sundin 08-07-2006, 02:20 PM Feels like a rellay need to find a remedy on this ECM problem.
Have tried to reflash but i just can´t understand the EFI Live and all its features...
Can a Chevy dealer make another reflash and help me?
Or will i have to fins someone in Sweden who can use the EFI Live?

You might want to talk to the EFI guys direct, they can probably walk you through it. You may have a bad ECM, might consider getting another one and starting over. Good Luck
