I'll be closing the deal on the new D/A I ordered next week ( invoice is in). I'm wondering what some of you may have paid for your extended warranties and how long of warranty terms you opted for. I just need some ammo for when I do battle with the Stealer. Thanks

Did your dealer tell you the engine has a 5yr/100k mile warranty on it?

Yes he did say there would be a 100K warranty on the engine. But after reading several posts concerning tranny problems with the Ally I've become a little concerned with only 3yr/36K on the tranny. Have most here opted for the extended warranty?

Opted for 6 year/100,000 mile "wrap" plan (covers everything but the engine) from www.warrantybynet.com (http://www.warrantybynet.com); third warranty I have had with them and I have been very, very happy with their customer service and I get to use my local mechanic and not the "stealer".http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

What tranny problems are you reffering to? I haven't seen very many at all. Keep in mind people generally only post when there are problems. Less than 1% of all duramax owners post or are a part of this site.

I have been looking at this too. There was another thread I was reading on this forum about this subject, can't find it right now but if you do a search I'm sure it will come up. I also called Warrantybuynet.com. I checked the "wrap" plan. I was told by two different people that it specifically didn't cover the drivetrain. Engine was not covered and niether was the TRANNY. I made them check that with their supervisor and he said that was the case, tranny not covered. The "wrap" was $0 deduct - $1044 $100 deduct - $931. The quote for full coverage was for a 5/100 - $0 deduct - $1582 $100 deduct - $1332. I haven't checked with GMPP yet.

The following thread alone made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8649&PN=1

I'm sure that Ally issues are with only a small % of owners but that's why I'm asking. An extended warranty would be good peaces of mind i f I can afford it!

I was told to wait until the 3 year 36000 mile warranty has about 3 or 4 months left then get the extended. Told it would only cost about $100.00 more or so to do it that way. Why pay for 3 years or 36,000 you really don't need. Leave the money in the bank. Hell you might win the lotto and get a new truck every other month...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

COYZTER the extended warranty wouldn't help you in the case described in the above thread. Its under warranty but the part is unavailable.

Extended warranty = ripoff!!!!!!!!!!!!
If GM can't build a machine that will go at least 100k + then we are all fools for buying them in the first place. Yes once in a while a problem happens but not to warrant a big out lay of cash for something you may never use. Your better off to take that money and put on a couple of stocks. I guess I'm a gambler but this is just my opinion.

Thx

Got of the phone earlier with the dealership, and the finance guy offered a 5/75,000 extended warranty for $1795. But, if you don't have any claims on the extended warranty they will refund you the WHOLE $1795 back at the end of the warranty period. And NO, any repairs made under the terms of the original factory 3/36,000 and 5/100k do not count against the calaims on the extended warranty?! Has anyone heard of this before? It almost sounds to good to be true!

I bought the extend GM warrenty. Covers the entire truck bumber to bumber for 9 years or 100,000 miles. Cost was $1600.00 I believe you have to buy it when you take delivery of the truck not afterwards. Some would consider that expensive but I look at it different, if you plan to keep the truck for that long. The nice thing about the warrenty from GM is that it gives you a free rental when ever your truck is in the dealer for service. So if you bought a truck you get a truck as the rental. I've already used it. Truck got an oil leak and they had to wait for parts, dropped mine off and got a extend cab right at the dealer. Returned to the dealer once truck was ready and no charge for the rental as the plan coverd it. So what would the cost of been for renting a truck for 10 days? Here in LA that would be $350, so if there are say 4 repairs over the 9 years I'm about even. Any more than 4 and I'm ahead of the game.

Beleove it or not coyzter, the refund part is true. If there are no claims on the extended warranty if you trade the truck in down the line the price of the ex. warranty will come of the sticker of the new one or refunded etc....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Thanks dpower, that's sounds like something I really might consider. Do you know if there are many that are able to take advantage of the refund?

I got a 7/70000 bumper to bumper engine and trany covered for 1800.00. With free rental and a full refund if not used.

It sounds like I could have done better if I would have pushed a little more. But it's not bad. Not bad insurance........

I paid 1600 warrantybynet

6 year 100,000 no deductable. I really got it for the tranny obviously since we know the engine is good to 100,000. Tranny ends up bulletproof under reasonable power levels. Injection system turns up questionable. Go figure

Truck is gone and the warranty never got touched.

As I said earlier, I purchased the warrantybynet for 6/100,000; I have to look hard, but somewhere I have an email from them that states the Ally is covered by their warranty because GM only covered the D/Max engine to 100,000.

Here is the quote from WarrantybyNet on the Diesel Wrap plan:

"If you purchase The Premier Diesel Wrap for your 2004 Chevrolet
Silverado 4wd Turbo/Diesel, we will cover everything on the engine that Chevrolet doesn't, your transmision, and drive axle . . ."

My 6/100,000 cost me $875 (I know there was a decent discount for being a repeat customer) and it is transferable if I sell the vehicle privately (made the sale of my '01 8.1 Suburban a slam dunk and got a really good price because of it).

Hoot, glad to see you made it off of the side of the road with that D*dge! There was one being put on a roll-back about 7:30 on Wed. on the Blue Route at the Villanova exit looked just like yours!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

If your going to buy an extended warranty make sure it is a GM warranty! I have bought other warranties before and the are not worth the paper they are written on.

Hoot,

Since you did not use it, did YOU get a full refund on it??
