: Towing with the Quad 135
I just installed the Quad 135 last week, love it. Yesterday I went to NY to pick up my other DMAX loaded it in the tailer, thought I would try towing with the 135. Works great, a little smoke off throttle with grat power to roll on and pass anyone. I was impressed with the power of this programer and with the ability to tow with out crazy EGT's, great.
The trailer weight is 7000lbs while the DMAX is around 5500 lbs, running 85 MPH for 200 miles. I saw 1300 on some larger hills but was around 1000 running on mild hills and flats while under power.
Just wanted to pass on this info, as I was pleased with the perfomance of this component. Has anyone else toed with this.?

4whln 05-06-2004, 11:48 AM I tried the 135 a couple of months ago, and was consistantly going into limp mode when trying to pass anyone going about 70 when initiating the pass(and this was empty). I traded it in on the 110. Loved the power off the line with it though, just couldn't use it at high speedshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Any idea why as our trucks are pretty much the same? Edited by: 4whln
mjohnson97045 05-06-2004, 12:00 PM What level were you towing in 135?
4whln 05-06-2004, 12:05 PM That's what I said, I WAS NOT towing. Was set on the 135 level.
I was the full 135. The only other part I have is the Bully Dog trans upgrade, i believe it does allow you to hold a little more power. I do also have our exhaust and our cold air intake. I to have limped the trans under hard runs, I had no problems passing everyone over the 200 mile trip. I had the 110, Quad hooked me up with the 135 a couple weeks ago, BIG difference. Maybe you should speak with Quad on this, possibly you can get the 135 to work for you.

4whln 05-06-2004, 12:37 PM I have no upgrade on the tranny, but do have the Banks exhaust and an open air intake upgrade. What's the Bully Dog upgrade?
This is a new trans package they have, under $100, easy to install. You do have to drop the trans pan tp install. takes about 1-2 hours to install. It will firm up shifts and is said to hold an extra 50 HP over stock.
Check these forums, there are a couple threads on this tranny components going now. I tried it and many people are looking into it while others feel it is a waste of money. As I just posted on another thread, IF you are even thinking of building a full out tranny don't do this part, just save the $$$ until you can do the full deal.
Hope this helps

4whln 05-06-2004, 01:16 PM Thanks, will consider everything. Not wanting to race, so not sure I want to do a big expensive upgrade. May give this a try.
Amric 05-06-2004, 06:16 PM Last weekend, I did a 750 mile trip towing a 7000lb trailer running the full 215hp tune. EGT was 900 on average. I never let it get past 1200 even pulling hills, and merging into traffic. I was very impressed how easy it was to keep the temps down.
Disclaimer: I'm in Michigan, and towed to southern Indiana. Low elevations, and no long climbs.

How do you like your trans set up? I just installed a ATS convertor today in one of the DMAXs Haven't had it out to try yet.

I've been very happy with it, especially when in tow/haul mode. The shifts are crazy fast.
