Ok, I ordered my truck on Saturday. Duramax, Allison. Was wondering if it would have been to my benefit to get the Heavy Duty Power Pack instead of ordering the Dmax, Allison seperate. My dealer isn't exactly progressive, so I doubt they'd even heard of the power pack. Somebody help me out.......

bowtiebob,
Here's how it breaks down...
Duramax ($5,010) + Allison ($2,295)= $7,305
or
Duramax ($5,010 + Allison ($2,295)+ Locking Dif ($295) = $7,600- ($1,000 HD Power Package discount) = $6,600

I checked the Chevrolet website and it does STATE that it includes the HD Towing package, but my dealer and my order reflects that it is not included. I shows it as a seperate option as I did order that option.

The window sticker they printed of the order shows

PDN - Heavy Duty Power Package $7,600
Heavy Duty Power Package Savings -$1,000

It is definately worth it, you'll save $705 dollars and get the Locking Dif.
Go for it!

Theres a difference in price of the HDPP (RPO PDN) depending upon 1SB (LS package) or 1SC (LT package) due to the fact that the LT included the 4 speed automatic in the price, thus smaller price. Either way, the HDPP savings discount is still $1000 or about $850 on the dealer invoice.

Guys, thanks for the help. Just talked to my dealer. The orders don't go in until Wed. evening, so I was able to make the change just fine. Got me a locking diff. and saved me $661 on my bottom line!! Excuse my ignorance, but how will I be using a locking differential? I had figured that 4WD would be enough for my needs. Is there a switch in the cab to activate it?? Anyway, thank you all for your help. By getting the info I needed quickly, I saved some money to put towards mods!!!

Bob,

The locking diff requires no driver input. Basically, when tire spin occurs in the driving rear wheel, there are clutches in the differential that will lock up and send power to the other wheel as well. I would assume that GM is staying with the Eaton G80 locking diff in the 04 model, though I have not checked on that.

John,

Thanks. After some research, I came up with about as much. Yes, it is still a G80. Thanks again.

I don't know about you guys, but I would NEVER EVER EVER buy a truck without a locking rear. EVER! When I was shopping for mine I turned down two offers because they didn't have locking rears.

Used to have a 89 chevy w/ 454 and replaced the rear axle with an old 85 chevy we had. The replacement being an open. That thing used to annoy me to no end. I would be on my father's property on a gravel road and would get stuck on a wet rock. Need 4x4, Pathetic. On the construction site, one tire on gravel, one in mud, Stuck, need 4x4. I was using 4x4 just about everyday a few times a day. Just annoying when you shouldn't have to.

Would be cool if GM came out with a push button electric locker for the front diff. That would be sick.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Oh yeah, and it looks kinda dumb when you do a one wheel burnout. Like one of those ricer burnershttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

You mean you've never shown your rear off to the girls? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
