i have been discussing this on this thread
http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85268

but this has gone kinda cold so i thought i would post a new thread.

this is my problem i have been having bad fuel milage just like before i got my new injectors about 7 months ago. there is a diesel smell when i stop and get out of the truck. checked my balance rates with my predator and there is one that is constantly over 3 and two or three mre that stay over 2. i did not think that this was taht bad though. i checed my oil dipstick for diesel in the oil but i can't tell if it is there. i also noticed that hte oil level is over the full line and just about over the lead weight with the gauge one it.

ok i went and checked my oil again and i still can't tell if there is fuel in my oil but it is over the fill line still and it covers the entire lead weight at the end that serves as the gauge.

i checed my balance rates again and there was one that stayed at about 2.8 and a couple of otheres that stayed at 1 or a little over. to me that seams normal and no problmes.

also every time i get out i smell diesle and so does the girlfriend.

i am just so confused about this right now. half of me thinks that this is nothing and the other half is telling me to get $100 bucks out for new injectors.

aren't the second ones you had installed still under warranty?

Sounds like bad injector, especially when you say it shakes at idle now. IMO, $100 bucks is cheap insurance, bad injectors can cause much bigger problems. Curious, cus I have an '03 with 99500 now - all original and mine is noisy as all get out at certain loads - sounds like fuel knock. I keep thinking I have an injector getting ready to Censored the bed - that is my only sign. No smells, mileage good, etc. Do you have any noise??? or is it just the smell and subsequent shake.
Thinking now too, did you replace fuel filter recently - if so double check that it is not leaking around o-ring. Seen this before, it can be tricky getting that o-ring properly seated.

Just my 2c

Also check the FPVR, it is below the glow plug thing ontop of the valve cover on the drivers side toward the rear of the engine, that sometimes will leak and make a diesel smell

And ya your truck is covered for the 200k injector warranty, it should be 100% free when you get them done, did they charge you the $100 when you first got it done?

Get your $100 back! I will look for the TSB that states injectors on 01 and 02's are free of charge to the customer for the 200k

ok now i know that i should not pay if it happes again but what should i do about my truck right now. i simply just don't enough right now to know what is actually wrong and i simply don't have the money to take it in and pay $89 just to look at it without being sure that something is wrong.

i can see some of the symptoms of the injector falure
1 bad milage,
2 diesel smell around the car when i stop,
3 my oil dip stick says that my oil is way over the full line,
4 there has been a little shaking at idol recently,
5 the predator shows that the balance rates of some of the injectors sometimes hover around 3.
also i have noticed that the back of the truck lookes like dirtly like there has been a light film of some sort of petrolium based fluid and is now covered with that dirty dust that seems to coat every thing in a truck where there is a lot of oilfield work done.

but i just don't know if this is enough to justify taking it in because i am unable to tell if there is diesel in my oil when i look.

Ok i just got back from a trip to houston and when i got back as soon as i steeped out of the truck i noticed that there was a strong petrolium smell coming from the truck. and that there was a substance on the underneith and tailgate of the truck.

but i checked the balancing rates on the predator again and they were all under 1 except for 2 one hovering just under 3 and the other around 1.1

what should i do
