These are pictures of my filter after 10k. I screwed up somewhere and thought it only had 7k on it. This is after running an additive for the entire time (FPPF or Primrose). Why in the world would they put a drain on the filter but construct the filter with places that can't be drained? And as for the idiot who decided where the filter should go he should be forced to travel the country replacing our filters.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/uploads/1D6_filter2.JPG

Exactly why I run a lift pump with a water sep. in it, and a mega filter in post install. My factory filters come out spotless after 15k miles...

Running primrose every fillup i've never seen any rust whether or not there is a secondary filter or lift pump. you must have some very "moist" fuel..

Looks like pieces of rust setting in the pastic fitting. If so, I'd be concerned where it came from, maybe the steel fuel lines. Have you got a picture of the filter elememt its self . Thanks.Edited by: Bill Gisse

I am a little embarrased http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif to admit I abused my baby. I changed the fuel filter for the first time at 32khttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif. after seeing everyones post and the ol' man http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ouch.gif doing some chewing the whole time, we cut the original filter apart. the element was dark but I had no rust, dirt or any other junk in the can or pleats. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif I bow to the DIESEL GODShttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif, for my good fortune. now have everything on the 5k mile system. all synthetic and baldwin or wix filters. Thank you guys for your continued idea's and information, this is a great site. Billy

Looks like Franlk Blum's pics. I'd suggest draining a bit off of the Mega and see what comes outhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

I think you'll find that you picked up the scale and flakes from the bottom of someone's storage tank...

I've been scratching my head overthis stupid drain design myself since I first saw the insides of one.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Bill here's the picture. John, all I can say is thank god for the mega. The stuff was kind of slimy Do I need to add something for the bugs or should FPPF or Primrose handle that?

Have you tried draining the bottom of the Mega into a clean jar? You might be surprised...

I have FPPF Killem, but George was telling me that he had some pretty potent stuff also.

I'd run something through to kill any bugs, and it wouldn't hurt to do a fuel samplenoting bacterial test. Before and after would also be cool...

I scraped some pasty sludge from a fitting in my supply line recently and sent it. Tested positive for bacterial/fungal...

I'm going to replace the mega this weekend so I'll drain some from it before I remove it to see if anything comes out. I must of picked this stuff up on vacation because I didn't have anything the first time I changed the filter and I only get my fuel from one place(same as the school, fire dept, ambulance) so I assume its half way decent. I don't know if I'll go through the fuel testing but I will get some anti-fungal (now I know I must of picked it up in a bad placehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif)

John,

I drained some out of the mega and it was clear no junk. I'm going to let it go a little bit longer. Probably until I get my lift pump installed, unless you think I should go ahead and change it just to be safe.

The first filter (OEM) got most of the contaminants.

I buy most of my fuel from the same station which supplies our emergency forces and school buses so I know it doesn't sit around. The original picture of the OEM was after a trip to Florida. It must have caught all of the big stuff because it didn't end up in the mega.
