is anyone aware of any class action suits against GM regarding this vehicle and it's diesel engine? Ours has been through 4 fuel injector pumps, GM will only warranty this truck to 100,000, they know these pumps aren't lasting over 5,000 miles and they've done nothing to rectify the situation. They won't let dealers stock the pump and they won't replace until it completely fails. This lays the truck up for 4 days.

I have heard a rumour a class action suit was launched against Stanadyne. My Mech stated GM has increased the warranty on the pump going back 11 years and up tp 250,000km (x0.625=miles).
Even though my pump failed after 75,000km (3 yrs) I'm SOL. This is my 3rd pump in 365,000 km

Is it the pump that is so bad, or is it just the PMD causing most of the pump problems, and the pump itself isn't that bad?

I still think a lot of the problems are caused by the PMD, but the injection pump gets blamed for it as it is attached to the pump, and is technically part of it.

That's MO.

i have unfortunately become all to familiar with the symptoms of PMD vs IP failure. When the PMD acts the truck will shut down as if you've turned off the key. After it cools down it will often restart and run until it gets too hot again. Also No codes are displayed and no SES light.
The ip will throw codes and give symptoms of running rough, poor power, hard starting.

Right, but it would be interesting to see statistics on trucks that have had their IP's replaced by dealers that have had symptoms of PMD failure versus IP failure. I suspect that the majority are being replaced with PMD symptoms, not IP symptoms.

Holy crap.
Did you put gasoline in it by mistake?

I have a 2000/3500 work truck that has 061000 miles in a hot climate & has NEVER had one thing touched on the engine other than preventive maintaince. It also has the last incarnation of the 6.5 as it is the block that has 3 threaded bosses where the LH engine mount bolts on. My question for the person that started the thread, is are you willing to show & share the work orders for information purposes? Records of fuel used, supplements added etc. Pumps that fail have a reason. What is the reason ?

It almost sounds as though someone who is diagnosing the problem, is not familiar with the finer points of the 6.5.

Bring on the info, let us help this be the last pump you need to put in for a long while.

Concurring with most posts above...
Just a bad/worn connector at FSD will spoil them.
Just a poorly set up fuel filter will quickly wear the pumps.
