I have a 2500HD D/A and want to rent a skid-steer from Home Depot for some work that I need to do on my land in preparation for building our house. My concern is the towing capacity of the factory hitch. The machine weighs about 6500lbs. and the trailer about 3000lbs, has anybody towed this kind of weight with the factory hitch? It states 7500 load carrying and 10000lbs with weight distributing hitch. What is the oppinion on this?

Go for it! If you were towing every day you might want a better hitch but that will do fine. Lots of people do a lot more with a lot less.

I think it is rated for 10k, your fine.

curtisb,

It's not a problem, as long as you use a weight distributing hitch.

Without this it is too much dead weight, IMHO.

I haul my Deere SSL and attachments behind mine quite a bit, no problems ( around 14K loaded).

I regularly pull over 12k on the factory hitch. Skidsteers and such just like Tim's. You'll be fine.

Have fun.

It's when you get to hauling backhoes on the gooseneck that really gets things overloaded, but still goes fine.

if its a tandem trailer you can change the weight by where u put the bobcat just make sure you put some wieght on the hitch to keep it down but not too much that all the wieght is on the front later my 2 cents worth
