Have 2005 K2500HD LT Trim and thinking of trying to install a CB Radio in the lower console space 7 3/8" x 2 1/8" hole. Would be a neat place for a CB, if it doable. Don't have the truck's shop manual, and wondering if anyone out there has thought about doing this. Is the console removal/reinstall a big deal - Got AC vents, rear radio connection in it? And $64K question is there about 3-4" of space behind the 7 3/8" X 2 1/8" compartment for the antenna connection/power hookup? Thanks in advance.:)

The piece comes out quite easily and, yes, other's have done it. Most of your questions will be answered if you just remove the cubby. Remove the rubber liner in the top cubby, grab that center divider firmly and pull quickly. It pops right out and the same for back in. There are no hidden fasteners. The only thing connecting it, assuming no 6 disc cd player, are the two 12v plug ins for the lighter/12 volt power source. Those unplug from behind once removed.

I Put my cb there and had little if any problems. I put a galaxy 929 cb in the hole. i did have to trim a few little braces in the back of the hole to get it to fit all they way in. This is a big cb. It does look sweet though when done!

Mad, Thanks for the info. I do have the 6 cd player. What's that do to the removal? Thanks.

Assuming that's where you're putting the CB it's just a wire harness to unclip. Getting rid of the cd player? Some guys install electronics inside the armrest of the center console; that's an option too. Just remote the mike and I'd think it would be real clean. Just thoughts...

Theres not alot of depth behind the compartment above the 6 disk changer. I did'nt want to cut out anything behind it as that stuff looked important. However I do not have the CD player and was able to mount my CB there effortlessly.:ro)

Or, you could do what I did... Take a look at my garage and you can see my Cobra installed. I love that little radio! Works good and the install is a snap! Just pull out the cup holder and install the little antenna/power box in there, drill a hole and you're done!! Can't do any mods to the radio (i.e. up the power) or anything, but if you just want a nice radio that you can remove for security purposes, then this one is the way to go IMO.

Here is my center console install. The Radio is a Uniden PC68xl. Just your standard AM CB radio. I "MAY" also have a Texas Star DX399 under the cupholder.

I had to trim the back of the pocket that the radio sits in. There is a bump in the back of the pocket that looks like it is used as a stop and location point for some factory available accessory, dunno. Either way, with about 10 minutes and a dremel, it was no longer an issue. The power and antenna wires wrap under the radio and go back to the area under the cup holder. It is a friction fit, with no wiggles whatsoever. Sound from the speaker has a couple of "ports" on each side of the radio to escape, so no external speaker is needed. I can also slide the radio out a bit and add some walkman head phones if desired (for those long trips with the wife and kids in the truck).
The cool thing (literally) is that I had to trim the A/C duct under the console to get the T/S to fit properly, so now there is a supply of cool air to keep it, and the radio, happy in the Texas heat.
