P0380 Glow plugs Emission Warranty, NOT

GM made me out to be a liar.
All this time I’ve been saying that the Glow plugs are covered under the Emission Warranty, per GM customer service they are NOT!

Truck has 40000 miles on it.
SES light came on. Code was a P0380. Took it in to the local dealer. They said they would check with the local area rep but until they heard back from him they would have to cover it under the power train warranty, meaning it would cost me $100.00. I agreed since I wanted to get the truck back that day. 2 weeks go buy and they don’t call me back and no “check in the mail”. I go down there and they say that the glow plugs are not covered under the Emission warranty. They are covered under the power train warranty. No, they don’t care what the book says. I leave and call the customer support #. When they call me back, they say the same thing. I ask to speak with a supervisor. Supervisor gives me the same story. No matter what the book, I got with the truck, says the only things covered under the Emission warranty is the PCM and the Cat.

I’m not sure if I’m going to pursue this any farther at this point….if I do I’ll let you know how it goes….

According to GM's own time labor guide the op for R&R glow plugs are all "Coverage Code" E (emission). Labor ops J-4760, J-4761 & J-4767 are all code "E".....and labor op code J-4820 for the glowe plug module and relay are also covered under coverage code "E"

That means if the dealer submits the claim with one of those labor ops, it will go through the system as emissions warranty. See if he is willing to submit it that way and if it pays, reimburse your $100.

OK, here you go. Article 1.2, page 15 & 16 in the GM Policies and Procedures Manual under "Ignition System". That is the Emissions- Warranted Parts List. Have the Service Manager look it up or call Customer Relations and tell them where to find it.

I had the 380 code and the faulty glow plug was replaced under warranty. That was last January at 49,000 miles. My service writer told me it was included under the 80,000 emissions warranty. I have also got my ECM replaced under that very same warranty, as well as my faulty guage cluster. All of this was done after the bumper to bumper, 36,000 mile warranty. Sorry to hear about your troubles.

My dealer told me it was a "typo" in the book. This is when I joined the site and got the same "E" code and where to find it in there policies book thingy, after taking that info into them they gave me my money back, not very happily but I got it back

Don't know if this will help, but I had a similar experience. Last March, I had the SES light come on at 61,148 miles. I took it to a local dealer, whose diagnosis was a P0540 code and that the glow plug controller was bad. They said it was not covered by emissions warranty, and I did pay the $100. Two weeks ago I received in the mail a $100 check from the dealer with no explanation.

Amazing! I'm guessing that when they submitted the claim to GM, they were reimbursed the whole amount, and refunded me the $100. Don't give up.

Yep...same problem here, SES light came on at 70,000+ miles. Took truck to my local dealer and was told that my glow plugs were bad. They were all replaced under the Emmisions Warranty, no charge to me.
