Does anyone know what size the threads are on the stick shift knob? Metric? SAE? I am wanting to put a different knob on and I need to know the thread type. Thanks

He did if it's the one I'm thinking of. Look in the ZF6 aftermarket section for shifter mods. There's a pic of it there.

Yes I did. Look in my garage. The shift knob is molded on. The trans has M16 x 1.5 mm threads the shift lever screws onto.

Jeli, did you make the whole stick or did you get another stick and just modify the end for the t-handle. Yours looks exactly like what I want to do.

I had the whole stick done. It was a gov't job my Dad had done for me. It started out as a piece of 2" bar stock. Many chips were made in this endeavor!!! The stick is a solid aluminum shifter the same size as stock. The bend was made by heating and bending. An easier approach would be to make a straight stick and drill the hole in the end at a 15 degree angle. That is the same angle as the bend in the lever now. You could start longer and shorten as needed.

Now the bad news. The stock shifter has a rubber boot between the steel outer shell and the aluminum inner block. Without this little piece of magic all the trans noise is sent up the stick into the cab. Daily driving 24 miles one way wasn't bad but after three hours towing my 5k trailer I had enough. The added load of the trailer increased the noise. Without the rubber it makes the shift gates very crisp. For racing it would be great because you can feel the gears better. After 9 months I went back to the stock shifter.

If a replacement shifter wasn't too expensive you could carefully cut the lever just below the knob and press a slightly oversized rod with threads on the end for a tee handle. I'm just too busy and cheap to do this.
