: 8.1 headers
8100hammer 05-04-2004, 04:15 PM Does Anybody know of manufacturers of 8100 headers other than the other guys or JBA?? Got the okay from the CP for exhaust for the 8.1!! I looking for value priced ones, not willing to spend 750+ just for headers. Thanks
A gasser coming for you, Diesels!!!!
Dmax Tim 05-05-2004, 08:48 AM Get a kit and make your own, all 8 pipes coming thru the hood would look neat and sound great http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Lawnboy 05-05-2004, 11:04 AM Just my opinion on headers....The more money you spend the better they are.
No need to chintz here. They'll be on for a LONG time. And with living in the snow belt, you'll want a corrosion resistant coating.
I checked, they don't offer new stuff, but I have a set of Doug Thorley Tri-Y's on my '90 for the past 10 years or more. If they made some for the newer trucks, I'd recommend them in a heartbeat. THICK flanges, industrial chrome plating, NO leaks!
Money spent here will make them last. Don't know about you, but I HATE exhaust work. More so when its rusty. The LESS often I have to do it the better.
8100hammer 05-05-2004, 04:15 PM As far as headers going thur the hood, ah NO. Thanks for the info lawnboy. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gifBut just got some sad news, from the gm performance. Hp3 8100 has been dropped and will not be produced. http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Well off the make my own hp3 engine What do people think of JBA headers for 8.1 ?
dpower 05-07-2004, 12:15 AM Coming for us diesels huh?
Burner 05-07-2004, 03:51 AM Why don't you just get a local shop to build ya a set of Stainless Steel headders? The price really isn't that much different and they'll last a long, long, long time. They will turn but you can rub them down, when they are still really warm, with WD-40 and get a nice golden blended look to them.

8.1GASSER 05-08-2004, 09:56 AM Can't speak for the JBA's, but I'm running TOG's and they are very impressive..well built headers...closest thing to long tubes other than building them yourself.

I take it you are coming for the diesels on a budget? Twin turbos got you down? 50K to do what you want, and then you can't tow, probably not make it to work 2 days a week with no start, mileage will be 2mpg at best, and your truck is worth .50 cents.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

8100hammer 05-12-2004, 02:36 PM As I have stated before I am finishing a 1953 Chevy pickup at the current time. Unlike some people here who have more money than sense, I have to watch my money. I in the planning stages of starting a 4 wheel drive shop, so I can bring horsepower to the masses. I am Sorry for your narrow view on things, but maybe next year I will build 8.1 worthy. But there is no real help at this forum, just a bunch cocky diesel heads, I thought this was the gasser section not close minded section. By the way how much hp does your duramax make without the turbo?
Burner 05-12-2004, 07:57 PM 8100 hammer...stay on the path. These guys are diesel heads and will give you a hard time...if you let them. Keep asking the questions, the gas questions.
BTW........ I think we are 17.05 to 1 with and just over 22 without it. The motor is tame @ 300 with the spinning thing so 240 would be about right for the "un-turbo" version. Yet it is a silly question, it's like a Diesel Head saying "ok, let's see how well you do without any sparkplugs" or something like that.

dpower 05-12-2004, 08:15 PM Come on now 8100, we give ya 100ci, what more could you ask for?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
8100hammer 05-12-2004, 08:53 PM What a silly question? Can you just think of a turbo 8.1, And for you diesel guys how about a 8.2 liter duramax with twins. I am saying one reason diesels make power is that they have turbo. Give the 8.1 a turbo then compare motor to motor. Since gas has little less energy to it, the cubic inch difference should play out. But the 8.1 in current form is not turbo ready. 8.1 that has been turboized (cam, computer, pistons, heads) to make full use of the turbo, could give a good duramax run for the money in power dept. And no it will not cost me $50k, if that the case I will buy Sonny Lenarod 762 for 55k and be done.
So back to my questions, headers anybody?

First of all I was just kidding so don't go away. I have been a big block man since before you were born. I have owned and raced everything from the 348" Chevy in '58, to the 409", to the Z11 427", to the 396",427 L88. Then I went to Pontiac and raced 389",421"Super Duty.455"TransAm. I did likewise with Ford and Chrysler with their big blocks. They all hauled ass big time. But, they make their power in the wrong place for the kind of driving we truck owners need.(including your twin turbo idea.) I have allready tried some of your ideas with big blocks(thought you were a virgin didn't you?) Your idea works for one purpose only, hauling ass. (if I use this word again, Mac is going to kick my butt) Most truck owners need an all around vehichle that will do everything and the Duramax does it all. Will my 500hp Duramax with occational nox whip your twin turbo? Maybe not, but I can turn the power down at will, I can hook up to a humongas load and tow it across country without a problem, get decent mileage and out pull you on any grade you choose. You might stay with me on a few grades, but you will pay a price, I won't. I would love to help you do your thing in any way I can cause I am a hotrodder and want you to succeed. I wish you the best in your 4X4 shop. Just remember; sell people what they really need and do a good job, they will come back forever. Don't try to sell them your dream.
regards, mike
