How long are you going to keep the truck? I personally don't bother. They charge way too much for it. I also hate working underneath trucks that have been undercoated. Over rated IMO. The only reason I would consider doing it is for the extra insulation to keep down road noise.

Thanks for the feedback. I plan on keeping the truck for a long time, and I to had my van done back in 94 with no problems.

I like how it looks in the wheel wells.

Thanks again.

Just remember when rust proofing make sure that all drain holes are clear and open. Having plugged drain holes from dried rust proofing can actually do more damage than good.

Max Power, I feel the same as you. I have a friend that does it so I can get it done for free. I would like to have it for the sound deadening, but I hate scraping that stuff off when you have to work under there. I still havent decided whether to do it or not.

If you can find a place that will do it cheap enough it can be work it and it also depends on where you live. If there is snow and ice with salt all over the place it can help but here in Texas nothing but hot weather and rain. Not sure it would make a difference. Maybe just for rust in the long run. I have thought about but I can't find a place that will do it cheap enough and guarantee the work. Hopefully if I keep looking I will.

Even though I live in the North West and we do get some snow here in Idaho, I agree with Max Power not real sure of the benefits of undercoating. I don't think that they use salt here but most of the car wash places provide a spray for the bottom of the vehicles to clean off whatever it is they use. Sound deadening might be nice tho.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

What would be really cool is a Line-X or Rhino option from the factory on the bottom of our trucks and on the rocker panels. It would cost more, but I bet it would virtually eliminate corrosion related to snow, and salt. (look cool and provide better isulation to)

I know that some vehicles are being made with laminated steel now. Got to check out a few samples a while back at it makes a huge difference as far as road noise is concerned. Not sure how if it helps with salt or rock damage though. More of a mess during assembly as well, the burning plastic requires a lot of ventilation.

High salt use for snow and ice melt on our roads here in SW Ont Can. Great Lakes area means rust and corrosion if you don't rust proof. OUr 2003 2500HD D/A short box extended cab went virtually strainght to the "Krown" Rust Protection Shop day after purchase. If you plan on keeping the truck and it is exposed to winter road salt I'd highly recommend a rust proofing. I have used Rust Check and for the last 14 years Krown. http://www.krown.com/

These prods. require annual application and yes Max Power they are a might messy to work on, but so can a rusty piece of crap. These prods. also keep door locks lubed from freezing. These prods don;t dry to a hard or soft solid coating but are more of an oil coating and repells moisture and actually creaps into crevices. Our '90 Volvo wagon @ 14+ years has no rust @ 420k kms/250k miles. Also just sold '94 Chebby 1500 with 180k kms and feel I got my money out of the annual rust proofing fee of about $130 Cdn.

No, I'm not a dealer...just a strong believer in protecting my investment!

I have heard many people say that the rust will start around the plugs that were drilled for the rust proofing. I drove my 93 GMC K1500 through 10 Minneapolis winters. After 150,000 miles, there is no rust. I would challenge anyone to find more consistently salted roads than in Minneapolis!

For most people, I think that rust proofing is a waste of money, especially considering our GM's use double-sided galvanized steel.
