can some one please help me here, my truck is a 97 and my wiper switch pilled in, i cant get the top shroud off the coloum because of the key cylinder, how do you release it? im working with limited tools right now.thanks for all your help

No need to remove the lock cylinder, there are 2 inverted torx head screws near the front of the column, nearest the wheel. Remove these screws and fanagle the upper cover off.

Yeap. you should be able to take out the torx screws and pop the cover off starting on the left side. It should roll over the key cylender.

On some the shroud wraps around the key cylinder.

The way I do it is remove the 2 inverted torx as stated above. Then I lift it up enough to get a 90 degree pick in there. You need to remove the battery cable and push in the pin on top of where the cylinder goes in while turning the key to start.

I have never tried it on that truck but I know on some GM vehicles you can pop the plastic thing that you turn as part of the key cylinder off. Just pry it with a screw driver it is clipped on. Warning I have never tried it on these truck only on Montanas and stuff so it might be different. If this would work it would save having to remove the key cylinder completely.
