sno king 06-08-2006, 04:33 PM well im off to iraq for a 6 month tour with the marines july 20th and i was wondering what i should do to my truck for those 6months. its a 2005 lly with 56k it has and edge aditude cold air intake straight piped and onboard air. I have a garage to keep it in and my pop said hed take it out every once in a while for me. No advise for the storage but take care in Iraq and tell all the others there how much we appreciate what you are all doing. :ro) wish I had a salute smiley.

My truck is parked for the summer right now, also. I've always drove it for approx 5 miles every month or so and return it back in the garage. No problems to date.
knighte 06-08-2006, 04:44 PM We all appreciate your service a great deal! Take care of yourself and those around you.
My truck will sit for up to 2 months without being driven. If your dad will just start it a couple of times and take it around the block the engine should be fine.
The diesel fuel will require some attention. Make sure the tank is topped off to minimize any condensation. AND... add two things: add a fuel stabilizer which will keep the fuel from geling up, and add bio-con which will stop any bacterial growth in the fuel. When you get home, and are ready to cruise around without a helmet, just take the truck in for an oil change and you'll be good to go!!
Be Careful... You are in our prayers!!!
Mitchagain 06-08-2006, 04:45 PM May God Speed Your Return! My son did three tours there with the Marines. Bagdad, Falluja, & Ramadi....keep your eyes open and your head down.
I kept his cars in the back pasture with covers, disconnected the battery, changed the oil before just his return (engine & transmission).

RoadRunnerTR21 06-08-2006, 05:07 PM Have someone run your truck for a short time every month. Don't forget to stabilize your fuel.
Good luck Marine!

Tutts 06-08-2006, 10:24 PM I happen to be a Canadian F-18 pilot. Keep up the good work in Iraq. We Canadians have a lot of folks in Afghanistan, and do appreciate all the great work that they are doing, as well as the many Americans in Iraq. Don't believe all the media hype that the peaceniks get not supporting you guys. There are many of us north of the border that fully support you and all that you are doing. God Speed!
idahofox 06-08-2006, 10:39 PM Be safe Dude and come back in the same condition you left in.

db9938 06-08-2006, 10:52 PM Godspeed!
If you're parking it in a barn, plug up every hole! Mice will invade, and whatever you do to the truck. Make darn sure you write it down. Started my s-10 after I came back from a deployment once, and forgot about the plug in the exhaust. And after I picked myself back up off the ground.....

May God bless you and keep you safe until you return home!
And I didn't know you could or should use stabilizer in diesel. Is it the same stuff you use for gasoline?
mgmack 06-09-2006, 12:47 AM Stay safe Brother! I was in the Corps (Lima Company 3rd Battalion 8th Marines) during Desert Storm and am currently in the Army serving a year in Afghanistan. The money I made during a year in Iraq (March 03-March 04) helped me to buy my truck.
I've left my truck with the wife, who drives it once or twice a week. She uses FPPF Total power once a month in the winter. Other than that no maintenance outside oil changes is needed.
ttyler 06-09-2006, 03:58 AM You got enough advice on the truck. Keep your head down and your eyes open. God bless & good luck. Come home safe. I did some time over there during the Iran / Iraq war in 1988 escorting Kuwaiti tankers in and out of the Gulf. 6 yrs USN.

I would think Stanadyne performance formula would be a good idea... A biocide would be a better idea.

Errrrrrrr, thought there would be more Marines than this. Im currently doin my 2 in Japan, headed back to the Duce Niner in a month. Im a 2846 and a Combat Marksmanship Trainer. Give someone a mozambique drill for me, and ditch the M9 for an M4. If your ever in 29 Palms im usually at the auto hobby screwin around.
