: i'm impressed!!!
evisr8 06-07-2006, 06:36 PM i just got back from the lake towing my ~4k# boat/trailer. going up one of the hills, the rpms stayed at 2100 and the truck went from 73mph to 72mph. the next hill, may 5-6% grade, the rpms jumped to ~3,000 and the speed was steady at 73mph. with my old '94 F350 460, i would have been lucky to be doing 55-60 up the hills with the pedal to the metal. now to fill up and check the mileage.

shuffman 06-07-2006, 11:02 PM I know exactly how you feel. We packed a 3500 lb camper and it was like it wasn't even there. Bags of power and great mileage. Now we have 10.5K # 5'er and this truck is a pullin' beast. Handles the trailer like a breeze. Bring on Furd and the Dodge Ewe, this truck kicks butttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......................SWH. ..:grd: :cool2:
evisr8 06-07-2006, 11:29 PM i just filled up and figured i got 13mpg. what will a tuner do? should i get an exhaust system first?
DURYMCGEE 06-08-2006, 12:33 AM Yes get an exhaust, then a tuner.
What will a tuner do? Make go faster

A smaller wallet reduces truck weight which equals faster truck. ;)

First, evisr, glad you like your truck. Just bought my 02 a few months ago and couldn't be happier. Actually just cracked 20mpg for the first time coming back from CO this week.
Question for DURYMCGEE. DId you put on your exhaust before of after the Edge?
Looking to get some feedback on if it makes a noticable power/economy difference in conjunction w/ the Edge.
W/ stock exhaust, my truck seems to make plenty of power when I turn up the edge. Fuel economy in normal driving is good. EGT's don't get too high even pulling my little boat (4k lb) up grades.
DOn't mean to jack your thread evisr, figure it's good info.

That ain't no joke!:ro) ):h

evisr8, the exhaust will help keep your EGTs down while towing. The box will give you more power....more power equals higher EGTs. Exhaust will
help keep them down.
Getting a cold air intake and exhaust helps but the real HP comes from the box/downlaod.
Just remember when you do that do not run a high (75+) HP level while towing.
Have fun and there a lot of great members that will answer all the question you could come up with.

I put it on before, I have a friend who put the edge on his truck before exhaust, then added exhaust. His wife hated the sound of it so he put the stocker back on, he claims its the same, even the egts.
I personally enjoy the sound, and piece of mind with the egts
shuffman 06-08-2006, 02:35 PM ......I've been running BD-Power's Intimidator Power Programmer for 2 years now on the first setting loaded/towing @ 55HP and 110TQ and unloaded on the second setting @ 80HP and 200 TQ. I have the same stock exhaust the truck came with with not a problem. I did add a K&N aircharger/filter to replace the old stock box setup. With this new air intake setup I've notice 3 things:
1-Better fuel mileage;
2-Cooler EGTs;
3-My turcbo saver shuts the engine down quicker since the shutdown temp is reached faster;
Therefore, IMHO, the newer air intake system has improved my Dmax's performance as described above and is a far more worthwhile investment then a newer very expensive exhaust system. I have but ine question = "For those of you that replaced your stock exhaust system what did you do with your stock one"?? Mine is still in excellent shape and when it is worn out I may consider upgrading it. In the meantime it does the job very well, whether I'm packing a load (camper 3.5K#) or towing a load (5th wheel trailer @ 10.5K#). I feel investing in a pyrometer + turbo boost guages is a more worthwhile investment when running any form of power enhancement device on a diesel. BD-Power's X-Monitor with the CES (cool engine shutdown/turbo saver) feature fills all my needs, very well!!............SWH...

Fred G 06-09-2006, 12:59 PM After towing with my DMAX for 2.5 years with the Banks 6-Gun, a modded airbox, and trying 2 different mufflers, I finally upgraded to a 4" MBRP exhaust. My towing mileage jumped up quite a bit, really surprised me, but a nice change. DO THE EXHAUST FIRST. You will not regret it.
Suprisingly, my "empty" MPG's didn't really change (17-18.5) but I think that has more to do with wind drag at 80MPH (and making little boost). Under a load at 65MPH, the boost comes up a lot more easily with the 4" exhaust which really seems to help the economy. Last week I got 17MPG towing my boat at speeds of 55-70. Absolutely amazing.
Tom Cobb 06-25-2006, 10:59 PM :ro) Decide what mods you want to do and do them all at once. It only hurts for a short time and only once. The wife won't know how many was done so she will only chew you out once. Otherwise you get multiple butt chewings. :confused: ):h
Do the exhaust and chip and you may never do any more except intake. Remember, it only hurts once to do them all. LOL!!!!!!!:lol: :muahaha:
