What is the secret to removing the black plastic trim aroung the tail lights on the dually? I am pretty sure they are glued. I'd like to paint them to give it a [Frenched] look.

Why not find a set of taillights off a 1500 or 2500 Sierra? Those don't have the raised black rim.

True, but I'd like to paint the trim to match my truck.

I had/have one that the tabs are broke so it is no good. I had the same idea, and it really wasn't wanting to come off. I think I still have it, if I get a chance tomorrow, I will see what it takes to get it off with out breaking it.....

Stay tuned....

First let me state that I have not done it...but...IIRC for disassembly of such pieces, a short time in the oven is in order. I don't know any other details...:o:

No need for the oven. I did it this morning, I guess if you don't have a heat gun you could possibly put them in the oven on LOW heat.

Just start on the side where they are clipped to the side, heat up the tape on the long side. I pryed it open with a screwdriver, then all the little pieces have tape on them two. Picture below so you can see where the tape it for refrence. Took about 5-10 minutes, no worries on cracking them so you can be a little rough if you need too. The one that I took apart is an original from my '02 and if it was gonna break it would have but it didn't.

Good luck

No problem, glad I could help..:)

Just goes to show ya, don't ever throw anything away....;)

Now I am wondering if I should go ahead and paint the extra set I have apart and swap them to the good taillights.....

I have mine that I removed off of my dually to paint, but it didn't turn out well, so I just tinted the bare lenses.
If anybody wants a spare set of covers (kinda painted white) let me know.

PM me your info. I'll try to get them out this week. They will have to be stripped down and repainted.

Sorry to hear that, gotta use it on low heat and keep it moving. Try to get all the tape on one side heated evenly. Definetly not in one place for a long time.:(

Being impatient has always been my downfall. Some day I'll learn
