: Mileage
graphicdisorder 06-03-2006, 02:26 PM Quickest, most effective ways to get some more mileage out of a dmax?
I have a 2004.5 Crew Cab 4x4, I pull a 26ft enclosed trailer (3,000lbs/with a 3,000lb truck in it/1,000lbs of gear miscs vendor stuff). So roughly 7-8,000lbs behind the truck, i run around 70-80mph pulling. I figure im getting 280ish-290ish miles to the tank. What can I do that will most effectively pick up some mileage. I am already running Edge Juice with attitude.
Air Intake?
Exhaust?
other?
Thanks in advance.
dwrat 06-03-2006, 03:39 PM The best thing you can do is air your tires to the max rating and keep your RPMs around 2,000. All those bolt on items don't help at all from my findings.

RickDLance 06-03-2006, 03:48 PM Sound advice on the tires. Also some of the EFI programers are getting improved MPG. Kennedy Diesel is one that you could check with. Might check here

Slow down on the MPH and keep the RPM's at or below 2K. Don't accelerate hard from a stop. The higher you go in RPM's the worse your mileage gets. As far as mods go get an exhaust upgrade to help with EGT's and I've heard some of the intakes help with this also. You may see a small pickup in MPG but your foot is the major contributor.
mattydmax 06-05-2006, 10:33 AM lakingslayer has it right!!!! right foot has everything to do with MPG. I was concerned about my mileage at one point and finally got myself to nurse an entire tank after changing Predator to stock and low and behold I came out at 15.5 around town instead of the normal 13 (sometimes less). And with tool boxes and tools that's 8220lbs. on my truck. The problem with the programmers is you are always checking to see if the power is still there!!!

graphicdisorder 06-05-2006, 12:00 PM Well i mean i have babied a tank of gas a few times and really dont pick up that many more miles, ive never seen more than say 300 miles on a tank pulling.

I couldn't resist:)
RickDLance 06-05-2006, 03:29 PM With the Kennedy economy tune I have gotten almost 21 mpg. My truck is an LLY 2500hd 4x4. It is up about 2-3 mpg from my average. Even towing my mpg seems to be up with it.
Fuel lubricity additive. Gives me an extra 1mpg; hand calculated...no shi, er, DIC! :)
SixPak 06-06-2006, 12:24 AM .....I have gotten almost 21 mpg. ....
At what speed?
RickDLance 06-06-2006, 12:43 AM 65-70mph, before the tune my best ever in 80,000 miles was 19mpg.
dorseltip 06-09-2006, 03:33 PM Hey graphicdisorder. I don't know how you feel about taking the Cat off, but I highly recommend it. You can probably get a down-pipe for around $120. Put an EGR block and a fingerstick if you get codes. Your truck'll love you for it; especially with that edge you'r running. Better breathing and cleaner for under $200.
