Hello,
I tried to install my brake controller a couple of days ago. I have installed the 40A fuse under the hood (top left position). I have my prodigy spliced into the harness that came w/ the truck.
I used a test light and don't have power in the 6 way plug (except for 2nd row right column pin where no wire hooks up). The 6 way plug is plugged into the top row, second from left column.
I put a test light on the 7 way blade connector by the hitch. I have power in the 12v constant on and all of the turn signals/lights work on the trailer.
My truck is a 2004.5 LLY extended cab 4x4 w/ the heavy duty trailering package.
Please help.
Marco
I guess I'm confused here, are you trying to put a six prong plug in the bed of the truck?
If so, why not just make it seven?
Otherwise we, or at least I, need some additional info about what you're trying to do....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Sorry for the confusion. I'm trying to get my brake controller to work. The 6 way plug that I'm referring to is the factory brake controller pigtail that comes un-installed with the heavy duty trailer package. It plugs into a "panel" by your left foot.
The "panel" doesn't have power in my truck (for 5/6 of the pins in the slot I need), hence the brake controller is not working.
Let me know if you have any ideas or if you need me to clarifiy anything.
Thanks, Marco
Oh, well that makes a little more sense.
I used the Prodigy pigtail for my truck so there's a plug on each end with no splicing.
The color coding can get a little funky with GM, but first make sure you're plugged into the right outlet on the truck. IIRC, there are actually three places that plug will fit into and it's the one in the middle.
There's a picture of which plug to use, but right now I can't remember if it's under that panel you pull off or not. Have you verified that you've got the right plug in on the truck?
Most of the controllers recommend disconnecting the vehicle power before hooking them up, could you have blown a fuse?
The 40A fuse that comes with the harness has nothing to do with the power for the trailer brakes. All that circuit does is feed power for the 12 volt system on the trailer, or for charging the trailer batteries while the truck engine is running.Edited by: Zeeb

Check the fuse that is towards the passenger side and closest to the fire wall. The way you describe it, it would be the one closest to the right. That is the one for the brake control.
If that doesn't yield any results, take the big plastic cover off that is surrounding the fuse/relay panel. Check to make sure the wire is hooked up the the stud properly.

Also, double check that the plug under the dash is in the correct location...IIRC, the plug will fit in two different locations, but the wire configuration (pins to prongs as it were) will only match up correctly in one.

Max Power: I assume you are referring to the Stud #2. I will check this later today, after I get out of my Contractor's Exam Crash Course. Unfortunately, I've got class from 8-5 today (Sunday).
Max Power and Zeeb: Stud #1 is where I put in the 40A fuse that I thought took care of the brake controller. Logically, since the fuse was included w/ the brake controller harness, I thought that that was the fuse to double check. I guess not, as Zeeb and you point out.
Fireman, I think I've got the proper location for the pigtail. It is in the top row and second from the left. This panel is located by the driver's left foot.
Thanks, Marco

Stud 2 is for the brake control. 1 is for power to the plug.

Thanks guys. It ended up being the fuse in Stud#2. $3 at the local auto parts store and it's working.
