Just heard Tomac took 3rd in the top gun shootouthttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif. 1st went to Jeff Garmon and 2nd was ts performance's truck. Awesome showing from Tomac and the dmaxhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif as 1st and 2nd have alot more invested and more resources available to them. Looks like the dmax is clipping the heals of the cummins, won't be long now. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

What were the times?

Winner was 11.43, second was 11.46, 3rd tomac no time posted, 4th ford 7.3 with a 13 second flat run. If Tomac ran like he did last weekend he's only .5 second behind the 2 dodges. Not bad, considering the 2 that beat him are diesel performance business built trucks that probably have unlimited resources and funds, not an average joe truck that has nothing to do with the diesel performance industry. Congrats to the winners too, great times, and congrats to Tomac for hanging close to the big boys.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

When I win the next race I'll be sure to thank the DieselPlace.com members for putting me the Duramax in the winners circle.

I have video of the event, I'll post it tomorrow. DuramaxRacing.com has 5GB of bandwith for May, so I'll be able to host the video.

BTW, I towed a 32' enclosed gooseneck trailer to the event, unhooked the "race truck" from the trailer, took 2nd in the Pro Street heads up class, 3rd in the shootout, then hooked the trailer back up and drove home.

Micheal Tomac

my best run was a 12.05@112.XX in the PS finals

In the shootout I launched too hard and spun all 4 tires. I had my worst 60' time of the day and ran a 12.16

mtomac ran impressively ALL DAY!!! And he did tow is BIG trailer there AND home. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif If any of you have not seen his truck run, you are missing out.

One thing to clear up. The truck that won was privately owned. Darren Morrison is the owner and the only person "paying" to go fast. He came to Jeff Garmon to make it that way, so give Darren credit for a job well done. Darren actually built the motor himself based on specs Jeff provided and then when it was in, he brought it to Jeff to tune on my Dyno. I was very proud for Darren, just as I was for every other truck that ran down the track... Do'ers, not talkers. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Some bad a$$ trucks come from that Garmon stable. In case I missed it, It was a dodge right? You say, built the motor. what was done to it?

Eric,

It was a 12V Dodge. The same one that I have the video of on my site from the last shop/dyno day. The truck belongs to Darren. Darren has spent the money and built the truck. It was tuned by Jeff Garmon and Darren on David's dyno. It has a custom pump, injectors, twins, etc. His power was all #2. It is not an unlimited funds truck either. Darren is just another dieselhead like the rest of us so the privateer thing that some others brought up before does not wash. Jeff Garmon really knows how to setup a Cummins to run.

That truck makes serious power for sure and they deserved the win after all the hard work that was put into making it run. I would have loved for a Duramax to win and I would have enjoyed being there to run too but it was not in the cards. Tomac made a strong showing for sure and CONGRATS to everybody who ran.

All I know is that Garmon's diesel makes a great contribution to the diesel performance sport for all of us. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

With your racing skills Brandon, you would have come home with some extra cash for sure. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I agree, not too many people recognize what Jeff does. I'd bet he makes more HP per dollar than anyone on a 12v.

Eric - Darrens motor was re-built just because it had a ton of miles on it. He is running special piston's Jeff made to de-compress a bit. Other than that it is stock internally. The intention was to give him a high 11 second power and get him accustomed to that level. Then to low-mid 11's, then shoot for the 10's. We'll see what happens...

I put Darrens time slip on my site. www.dieselperformancemotorsports.com (http://www.dieselperformancemotorsports.com)

I've added a download link to Jeff's 10.22 video.Edited by: DavidTD

Thanks Brandon and Dave. Not that it matters, but what kind of Dyno #'s does Darrens truck make?

DavidTD
05-03-2004, 01:30 PM
Eric - that was the best part of the weekend for me personally. Both Jeff and Darrens trucks were tuned on the dyno. After they came off, I estimated what they would run and was almost spot on. Kind of a "validation" for me on the dyno.

Darren ran 666hp on the dyno at 13xx something torque. Race weight is 5820. His 118.69 mph was what we "expected" and calculates to 660hp. Jeff's truck ran what we expected too for mph. Need to get the suspension set-up and he'll be in the 9's for sure.

I had every intention to help out on Mtomac`s truck until I read where he couldn`t even break the 11.9`shttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

And all winter many on this site was saying wait til this spring we will be seeing low 11`s out of that truck and other duramax trucks. I say not this year! Maybe, just maybe one will make 11.4`s (I am not talking about those weekly races, I mean in a real race where it counts) I have read about the 11.36 but it don`t count unless it`s a real race, with witness`. (I could get my bud at the drag race to make me up a really nice run! maybe 10`s or 11`s. and no one would be the wiser, unless I fessed up! Who knows, maybe that is what the 11.36 is.)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

I went to the race and was greeted with a bunch of BS.. I lined up for my first round of eliminations and got screwed.. The other guys light never came down and they disqualified me saying when I passed the lights I smoked them out, so he had no light.. As I argued with the official they kept running the race. He said that's just the way it is.. That was until I pointed out that my competitor was dialed in a half second slower than I was.. There was no way possible I could have passed his light with my exhaust when he was supposed to have left a half second sooner than me.. The official then apologized and said he would refund my money.. I had drivin there from Florida for this race.. A refund was BS.. They finally told me I could race for 3rd place against the 3rd place finisher.. They guaranteed him $150 wether he won or lost.. I won the race and cut a .01 light... They wouldn't allow me to race for 2nd or 1st... In all I was pretty upset with the whole situation, even though they tried to "somewhat" let me compete in the end. I didn't travel there to have a 3rd place finish be the best I was allowed to recieve.. I hate to bitXh, though getting disqualified for a track's light failure is a crock.. Being "allowed" the chance to race for 3rd and nothing higher is messed up as well.... They tried to say Gorman's truck smoked his competitors light as well, and Gorman had a single exhaust pointing straight up... BS is all I can say....

Micheal Tomac
05-03-2004, 06:24 PM
hdmax, I can only run 12.00 in competition without a rollbar

The DHRA is in a tough spot when it comes to smoking out the beams/lights. Many of these trucks smoke alot on the line spooling up the turbo. When the wind and conditions are just right the lights can get messed up by the smoke. The rules say if you smoke out the lights you're DQ'ed. What should they do? DQ the smoker or the guy that got smoked out? Eric did mention using fans in front of the beams and reflectors to keep the smoke away next time conditions are like it was in BG.

My bad, i read that it was Garmons truck, didn't mention privately owned. Either way there was some good competion at the race by the sounds of things.

The dmax will come. You figure Tomac isn't into hard motor parts or turbo or injectors that i know of, and cummins are. When that stuff is available to us, look out http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
