Have not seen any comments on the Predator. They good or bad or are they in the same bracket as the PUP-QUAD-XCELATOR

Since the bugs, I had, have been worked out I've been happy with mine. I did notice the other day that the "grade braking" isn't working. Not sure if the Predator is the cause or not. Anyone else notice this?

For what it's worht I noticed that my compression braking is much reduced with the Edge Juice/Attitude, too. Must be the timing.

Grade braking is a Allison feature activated in Tow Haul mode ....

Ditto on that. I have several customers who tow a lot and complained of the same thing. They also claim the allison doesn't downshift as soon. I noticed this a bit my self but I haven't towed much without the juice.

I agree that it is an Allison feature but, isn't it "always on"? Tow Haul or not?

Downshifting with a standard tranny does the same thing. Possibly to a greater extent since the clutch is either engaged or disengaged, no slipping like a torque converter. I noticed that with each level higher, downshifting is less and less effective for slowing the truck down.

Grade braking is only used in tow/haul mode.

Bronco

Are we talking about two different things here?

1. Grade breaking feature when tow haul is selected.

2. General loss of engine back pressure due to recalibrated PCM.

Mackin

Grade braking works in both mods .... It is most definately noticable in T/H ...

#2 You got me there ,have no clue what your refferancing ... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I have no idea how a program will effect TCM grade braking feature ... If anything a reset of memory may help ...Maybe someone can elaborate what they were told ....

My paticular Grade Braking in T/H works exceptionally well sometimes I find it a nusiance it works so well ...

Just a quick tap of the brakes is all it takes to engage ...

One of the above post was refering to diminished grade breaking with a manual transmission. Obviously there in no " tow haul" mode involved.

Lets say you have a manual or Allison that is not locked in tow haul. You pull the shift lever down one gear or manually down shift one gear. Would the amount of resistance " back pressure" be any less when running a downloader or module?

The Predator just isn't that popu;ar do to the fact once purchased ,you own it .... It marries your vin ..

Rumor has it that Diablo will erase but for a fee ...

FWIW as a cheap tune with diagnose capibilites with real time data reading it isn't bad .... If they could only read and erase TCM codes it would be the bomb really ...

Geno, BD power is releasing some kind of box that works in conjunction with the TCM. It will allow you to adjust shift points, remove speed limiter and a few other features. All for one rock bottom price of $500.

Thanks Max

Probably better to ad a few more $ and go with the TransGo Huh

The BD power box will not replace the transgo in any way. If your looking for an electronic substitute for the transgo your only option would be ATS' co-pilot.

The BD box doesn't add any holding power at all as far as I know.Edited by: Max Power

Geno, I have had my Predator for almost a year now and I like it. I have pretty much always been happy with it. It did start acting up with the freezing deal with 01 trucks, but I was sent several custom tunes that eliminated the problem. The problem was with the 1.04 version and earlier tuners. I dont know what they are at now though, 1.10 or higher I think. I like having it just for diagnostics and codes and for checking balance rates. For the price ya cant beat it really.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Hey Geno,

I was trying to get the entire grade breaking issue sorted out and then I was going to bring the topic back around to the Predator.

I guess once you buy an EDGE it is imposible not to talk about it!

The Predator is a serious tuner. If you have no intentions of selling your truck or selling the Predator, it is a good deal. They can be had for 350.00 ! The diagnostics are much more than the common code readers and erasers found with other tuners. It also offers the abillaty to remove the top speed limiter and adjust for tire size. Good downloader to stack with a module.

Would be interested in hearing from some who have downloaded the most recent version. R1.11. I have heard from one person that the 120 tune hauls ass. Possibly a little high on the EGT's? Couldn't be any worse than the other so called " coolest EGT tuner" and

" smoothest power available" tuners.

Mackin, can you load a 0 tune and just adjust the top speed limiter and still load another tune like a stealth or other tuner?

PEANUTGRWR

SO YOURE SAYING MAC THAT AFTER YOU INSTALL THE PRED THEN LOAD UP THE STEALTH OR ANOTHER TUNER THAT THE POWER GAIN ISNT THE SAME AS IT WOULD BE IF YOU WERE LOADING UP THE STEALTH OR OTHER TUNER ALONE WITH OUT THE PREDATOR?

Peanut it does raise the speed limiter on the 01's. It did on mine anyways, I still also have the old version, but I have newer custom tunes, supposed to be in the area of the new 120 maybe a little stronger on top end. I have also been told they have a custom tune thats around 140-160hp.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

Not sure exaclty, but mine seems to go up to 3300-3400 in 1st gear with custom predator.

Thanks for the info. Without the diagnostic equiptment it is hard to tell exactly when things are happening.

B-D Power tells me all day long my truck shifts at 2900 RPM and there new box will make it shift at 3200 RPM. I swear my truck already shifts at 3200 RPM? I also believe my factory rev limiter is 3400 RPM. That is wear she starts to lay down. ????

White Duramax
05-07-2004, 07:46 AM
Mine shifts at 3200rpm, I know, I was burnin some rubber the other night and she was hanging right at 3200 rpm before she grabbed second. If I put the shifter into 1 manually, then it seems to go 3300-3400rpm.

Bronco

How did you get custom tunes? Did they reprogramn the unit or did you via the internet?

Camstyn
05-07-2004, 12:19 PM
My rev limiter is at 3200rpm.

I find the power starts to drop at about 2900-3000rpm anyways, FWIW..
