: predator/trans queation
bcarricarte 06-01-2006, 05:05 PM Up to what level on the predator is my trans safe. This truck is my daily driver and I do occasionally floor it although I'm not a crazy driver. I rarely tow and when I do its usually not more than 6000. I just don't want trans problems at all.
Ps I don't plan on putting any gauges or other crap.
Also are there any cheap trans upgrades to help keep my trans in good shape.
Big thanks in advance.
40hp though some will say 65. my 2 cents...
h8nopi 06-01-2006, 07:41 PM I run the 65hp tune all the time(not towing). Used to run on 85hp but hit the highway and showed my a$$ and limped something(fuel or tranny). The 65hp will get a little warm if you tow with it just switch back and forth, but remember give the tranny a few calm days before you hammer on it or you'll regret it.
I run the 65hp tune every day and I'm tough on the truck. I haven't had any issues yet but, I've only had the predator for 3 months.
wpatrus 06-02-2006, 08:22 AM I was running 85 stock for a while, but backing down on shifts. Now I need (realy just want) and trans upgrade SC3. Currently I am running the boost stick only - no preditor. But thats just because I think I am running on borrowed time on the trans.
So the question is to get the trans, or get the GF a ring? I guess thats why I am only running the boost stick and no pred.
justlooking 06-02-2006, 08:59 AM I run mine on the 65 tune all the time. So far so good. I've been running it for about 15,000 miles. The real problem is the 4 to 5 shift. Just don't confuse the trans in those two shifts and you will be ok.
h8nopi 06-02-2006, 07:01 PM 65hp been good to me for 20k miles also
wpatrus try taking off the boost stick if yours is like mine I felt a boost in power after removing it while running stock
Tutts 06-02-2006, 11:21 PM 65hp tune and no problems...and counting. My wife will kill me if I limp the tranny and have to upgrade it.
bcarricarte 06-04-2006, 11:48 AM I was recently told that the predator increases line pressure and that this could lead to faster wearing of my trans. I was told that this can be changed on the predator. I was told this by a ford guy so I dont know if it applies to a GM or if I even need to worry about it.
Thanks
BudTX 06-05-2006, 09:10 AM I run the 65 HP setting on my Predator, and have for about 25k miles. I have not limped the tranny yet.
SLEEZ 06-05-2006, 11:20 PM I have the Edge EZ and have limped mine twice on the 65hp setting. It hasn't limped on the 40hp, I'm now being cautious and running level one.
cruznis300 06-06-2006, 11:05 AM I've ran the 65hp setting for about 3,000 miles and then bumped it up to the 85hp setting. I know I'm playing with fire but I've very careful on how I drive it on this setting. No boosted launches.. no full throttle runs.. I like the setting because it's got some decent power at the 50% throttle position and that's all it needs. I don't tow with it and always watch the 4-5 and 5-4 shifts to not downshift hard and burn the clutches.
Once I limp it.. IF I limp it, i'll downgrade to the 65 and keep it there. I have 5k on the 85hp now and have had no problems except throwing 1 P1093 the other day racing an Audi 3.0 A4.
noproblem 06-06-2006, 08:34 PM I am on 85 and never a issue, I don't drive like a arse hole but I don't drive like my grandmother. I have been at 85 for 20k.
MT Dmax Squid 06-06-2006, 09:01 PM stick with the 65, it will smooth out eventually... mine did.
BigShrimpah 06-06-2006, 10:20 PM I was recently told that the predator increases line pressure and that this could lead to faster wearing of my trans. FALSE
no Duramax tuners can modify the Allison parameters
mgmack 06-12-2006, 07:12 AM I ran mine on 65 for a few months with no problems. Then stepped up to 85 and gave it about two days to learn the shifts and no issues so far. I have pushed it pretty hard on 85 and never limped the tranny. I put it back to 65 while I'm in Afghanistan so the wife won't accidentally limp it while I'm gone.
My buddy keeps telling me not to worry about trans, when it goes I'll just upgrade to a SC level IV. He's trying to get me to the track to embarrass some ofthe rice burners down there. But he races a 10 second trans am and has spent over $50,000 on his engine and tranny... second engine and third tranny.
SLEEZ 06-12-2006, 09:33 PM I technically limped it but it was not a 0735 code, so no 0735 yet on 65hp for almost 10k.
Limped mine on 85 hp in 5th gear.........no trouble in lower gears. I have ran mine pretty hard on 65 hp (in every gear) for over 10k miles and no limps !!
brad h 06-13-2006, 07:12 PM run the 85 and forget it.85 works good and no problems
mlopez5154 06-22-2006, 11:34 AM :iamwithst
I run the 85 with the boost stick and zero problems. Shifts better than the 65 power tune.
Diesel Pilot 06-22-2006, 11:00 PM I run the 85 with the boost stick and zero problems. Shifts better than the 65 power tune.
:exactly:, I'm running the same combo and not a problem. If you want great shifts run the 40. If you want to haul balls run the 85, or put it on 100 and set your stopwatch to see how long the trans lasts.:ro)
Speschl88 06-24-2006, 10:10 PM Just to be safe is the 1st setting (Tow as they call it) would be safe place to be?????????? (I drive pretty fast) I dont need any crazy power, just better MPG and a little power. I dont want to be replacing anythnig anytime soon.
Tutts 06-25-2006, 12:48 AM That should be the 40 hp setting, and you should be safe. Don't think the MPG's will improve too much though. Mine didn't cause the foot keeps going to the floor.
Kentucky600 06-25-2006, 06:16 PM I have run mine on all the setting and I run the 100hp right now and have to about a month. I guess I am on borrowed time but everything seems to be going alright now. I drive it about every day and don't baby it at all.
BudTX 06-26-2006, 10:18 AM OK, you guys conviced me to upload the 85 hp tune. I did it this past weekend, and am enjoying the smoke show!
