Had to go look to make sure that I connected the fuel lines up correctly last night.

I changed my pre-OEM CAT 0749 filter with a little over 9k on it. Opened up the old filter by unrolling the top seam to take a look. As I was pulling the filter element out of the housing, I got kinda worried. It was clean, very clean. Theres a little discoloration (I think) and just a very small amount of something on it. Just a couple of small particles of debris in the bottom of the filter housing.

I was afraid that I had hooked the fuel lines up backwards so I double checked....nope they are correct.

I'd guess that I could run 16k to 20k before needing to replace the filter unless I get ahold of a bad batch of fuel.

I'll try to get some pics and post them.

Has anyone got pics of a new clean CAT filter element to compare against?

The filter is not black, that is a very good thing. So, I wounder why some are as black as coal and others look like nothing went through them? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif
