How do you get the cover off of the governor on a th700? I know there is supposed to be some sort of a clip that holds it on, but I can't see a clip anywhere on it, or any place to put a clip. What holds this on?

I've gotten pretty good at this as I change mine out for every pull.
1st. Are you sure you have the right cover? The governor is on the driver's side and the servo cover is on the passenger's side (both round).
2nd. As far as I know (I am no tranny expert), the early 700's only used a press fit on the governor cover (use a flat bladed screwdriver and CAREFULLY pry the cover loose around the edges working your way around and be careful as there is a square o-ring seal). On the later 700's they utilized a spring clip to help hold the cover in place. It hooks on the top and then is pressed into a groove on the bottom (clips is installed vertical). Your's may just not have the clip, and if it's an older case, may not even have the mounting bosses for it (Mike L. may know for sure).
The press fit is pretty strong as it's a pain in the nuts to remove it. I actually bought a new cover and seal and had it turned down a little to make installation and removal easier, but I make sure to now utilize the clip (which I did not before).
I hope this helps.

Yep, I have the right cover. I got it out... It was just a real tight press fit without a clip. I guess the so-called "87" tranny that I bought was not really an '87, since it didn't have a clip. Oh, well...
Thanks for the help!
