Hey y'all, I've been debating in my mind about moving to Terra Grapplers. I've run the BFG AT's (on my fifth set) and don't have any major complaints, but I was wondering how these tires compared. Are the Terra's louder or quieter than the BFG's? How do they compare on treadlife? Any advice would help. Thanx.

I've run two seperate sets on 1/2 ton trucks and liked them alot.
They were 265/16's.

Fairly quite on the road and seemed pretty good on dirt roads and snow.

Just ordered a set of 285/70R17E's for some H2's too.

Yeah, I like em.

To be fair, I recently sold a truck with BFG KO's and they wore/performed well also.
They were 285/16's

Both good tires IMO.

I've ran BFG's for years on my 1/2 ton trucks and always had good luck with them. However, the first set I've ran on my 3/4 ton truck have not held up. I have 18,000 miles on them now and they are all but bald. I might get 25,000 out of them if I'm lucky. I'm running stock and not towing heavy (8K). It just eats up the right rear tire and with normal rotation, they are almost shot. I drive a lot of in-town miles and I'm sure that has something to do with it. I'm going to try the Nittos here this summer to see if they wear the same. If so, might as well stick with them since they are cheaper than BFG's.

I was wondering the same. Around $50 bucks cheaper a tire too.

I've heard that the nitto is a softer compound tire. $.02

I tried the Nitto's, and wore them out quick, about 15,000 miles. I have always got my best mileage out of Toyo Open Country which I abuse off road in Mexico at high speed. I have wanted to get 10 ply rating, and bought BFG
AT's in the new 10 ply rated tire (285/75/16E). Tire is surprisingly very quiet, performs very well, and appears to be wearing like iron. Got about 15,000 on them (one Mexico trip - severe rock road high speed abuse) and they look like they have no wear. I have been very pleasantly surprised with this tire and hope the enthusiasm lasts. I tear tires up all the time, but the BFG have been the best I have ever had so far.

I got actually got almost 50k(granted they wouldn't last another mile) out of my 285 75 r16 load D terra grapplers on a '99 Z71. I have had both but only the Nittos for that many miles. I like the looks of the BFG's alot more but the Nitto's are significantly cheaper. The BFG's liked dirt & ice a little more, but I did not notice much diffence as far as handling or rain or snow between the 2.
-Buy the Nitto's & you still have enough $$ left for like 2 tanks of gas or something(about 200$ cheaper last I looked)

Nitto Terra Grappler and Toyo Open Country A/T??? I thought these were the same tire? If you look close the tread pattern is exactly the same. The difference I see is that the Nitto's have some "stuff" on the side to make it look more aggressive. Why would people complain about the treadlife on the Nitto's and brag about the treadlife on the Toyos? Aren't these the same tire made by Toyo??????

extremely similar tread but on closer examination they are quite different. ive looked @ nittos as well for my truck. was debating on gettin 295/75-R16's if i got a 4" lift and wore my current tires out.

You're right!! After making a REALLY close inspection, the tires do have slightly different tread. Does this mean that Toyo doesn't make the Nittos? I have heard that they did on several occasions and always believed it. If Toyo does make the Nittos, then why is treadlife different between the two A/T's?

Anyone have any insight on the new Nitto Dune Grappler? Looks pretty cool but not available in very tall heights.........yet!

BFG does not make a tire wide enough for my taste in a 16". I wish they made a 325/65/15 into a 16", but oh well. My 325/70/16 (34x13x16) will make it to about 45k. They rode great until I flat spotted them avoiding a deer. I "trued" them up...at about 2500rpm shifting thru to 3rd gear!!!

I have gone through two sets of the Terra Grapplers, and am lucky to see over 20/K. I do tow...and the horspower is a killer on rubber. I think I will try the new 10 ply BFG this time. More than my wheels are rated...but sounds like they may hold up better. They are only 10$ a tire over the Grapplers at Discount Tire also.
