Ok I looked every where in my owners manual for oil change info and it says nothing about a 500 mile change. Is there someplace to look to confirm this?

I did mine at 750 & it was full of shavings. Glad I did it & now won't do it again until 50,000 or until I get the mag tech cover :)

Here's the confirmation, do it ASAP. I just did mine at 3k and it was black, BUT the main thing is I put in 4 qts, plus a tad, and found out there was only 2Qts, in the thing. Same with the front took out 1qt, plus put in 2qt plus.

GM is making a killing by not putting in enough fluids in the trucks. Think about it 3 quarts @ $5 -$6 a quart, their cost times a zillion trucks, adds up to some serious cash. Not to mention all the cash they make by replacing rear ends because people trusted them to have the right amount in when they bought it new.Edited by: Kendall69

I just bought an '04 a Dmax/Allison/4WD. My dealer gave me a "reminder card" to bring my vehicle back at 3k miles for its first "service". However, the truck owner's manual does NOT mention that 3k service. I believe it specifies the first at 7500 or when you get the "change oil <?>" advisory on the dash.

From reading here it sounds like changing or at least checking the trans, diff and trans case fluids prior to 7500 miles might be wise. Should I expect the dealer to pay for the labor/fluids?

I would do one of two things - get rid of ALL manufactrer fluids, front, rear, Tranny, tranfer case, engine oil, OR take it back to the dealer as soon as you can and have them check and top off all fluids.

When I saw how the fluids looked I did my tranfer case this morning and it was looking poor. The front differential had a weird looking yellow stuff in it.

I went with Mobil one Engine Delvac1,- front, rear, and trnsfer case ( dextron lll mobil 1) and I put in Transynd Allison in the tranny.

You know it just feels good to have all that good stuff in, and I swear it runs smoother.

I changed my front and rear diff, lub yetserday. As I have read here both were low! The rear was about a quart and a half low. I took delivery last saturday and made sure to tell the salesman I wanted the fluid levels checked in both. Looks like if you spend 40K on a truck you could at least pull a plug! It makes me wonder what else is short. He could care less, all he wanted was a sale. He told me he would check my engine oil!!!! Like I couldn't do that! Anyway all new owners of 2500HD need to check the levels. Luckly mine only drove 700 miles and no towing.

What's even worse is that after reading all the short fluids I made a special trip to have them chack all fluids, and top them off and I trusted those SOb's - Ive put 4k WITH towing on mine trusting I was full. Found out I was NOT full by any streach of the imagination.

I crawled under the truck Saturday and removed the differential fill/inspection bolt - I could not see any fluid in there. I stuck my pinkie in as far down as I could - could not feel any liquid.

I've already called the Service Manager and will be returning the truck today to have all fluids checked. I don't understand how this can happen with a truck whose list price is nearly $50,000. Good Lord people!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

Just got back from the dealer...............they checked the fluids and reported "all were down a little bit but still in the operational range". I asked how much fluid and it sounded like that was added was a little more than to raise the level "more into the operational range".

I'm glad I found this forum - else I might have run too low for another 3000 miles!
