: Tranny Needed..on a Budget
Pro400exc 05-28-2006, 12:53 PM ok...
so...
I did a lil drag racing last night and I want more..
Dang Allison is such a b*tch...she didn't wanna hold power, lol
Ok jokin aside..
I have 270K miles on my allison..
Its been limped..numerous of times...15 or so...
I wanna be able to hold down a Moonshine/TTS and some spray..
Mike L...your the man..before you told me It would be best if I just bought a Stage5 Suncoat...
Thats about $3400 then I need a convertor..which i can buy used..
My question is..
What would happen if I just rebuilt my allison..how much would it cost for a stage 4 upgrade w/ a used convertor...(clutches,trans go,etc)
I dunno.
I do haul boats for a living..and this is also my play truck
so how can I do this w/ out spending a boat load..
Can I do it w/ $2500 or do i need to just wait and go Stg5?
rcr1978 05-28-2006, 12:58 PM How many miles on the motor? Is it the same as the Ally?
Pro400exc 05-28-2006, 01:01 PM nope...engine has 30K
I think you would be happy with a SC stage 5. You get what you pay for.
akdiesel 05-28-2006, 05:09 PM If you haul the boats for a living you should be able to write off some of the tranny upgrade.
More money in the front end but at the end of the year you get some back.
Pro400exc 05-28-2006, 08:08 PM i agree w/ whats said...I just can't wait...I want it NOW!!!lol
i ahve about $2500 saved up so far

You are not too far away from happiness.:ro)
Pro400exc 05-28-2006, 11:43 PM so mike...got anymore triple discs sitting around used?
DURAtotheMAX 05-29-2006, 09:12 AM You can do a IV for a significant amount under 3000 or so...that is with the core return $$$, 5 gal of fluid, triple disc TC...

...IF you're one of the mechanically gifted people with a full shop to include a lift and transmission jack; otherwise, for the truly heavy duty jobs like this, you'll be paying SIGNIFIGANTLY OVER $3000 for the job...and you won't risk dropping the transmission and cracking the bell housing. Right Ben? :D
StraitDiesel 05-29-2006, 03:20 PM What about IdahoRob, doesn't he just have the Transgo/SC converter? He is running some good power with it too... but I think he's replaced clutches a time or two?
Dan
DURAtotheMAX 05-29-2006, 10:04 PM ...IF you're one of the mechanically gifted people with a full shop to include a lift and transmission jack
ahh I definetly wouldnt call myself mechanically gifted):h ...I dont have a full shop either:(
Anyone with decent mechanical/engine experience, a couple free days, patience, an engine/trans stand, some tools, and an ATSG Ally service manual shouldnt have TOO much trouble with it. That being said I wont be responsible if your home-built Allison blows up because you put a torrington beaing in upside down, or if you get stuck and lost halfway thru :D
Ben
ratlover 05-30-2006, 03:10 PM If you dont mind doing the work throw a transgo kit in there with all new clutches from allison and a used converter. You cook the clutches and just throw a new set in there. Thats if your cheap and doing R&R isnt a big PITA for you. The proper thing to say if your going to use the word spray in the same sentence with trans upgrade is level 4 or a 5. On a positive note with your 2wd I dont think you will be hard on the c1's. Right Mike?
dmaxalliTech 05-30-2006, 05:57 PM got a used stage V sitting here on the floor.
StraitDiesel 05-30-2006, 06:39 PM How "used" is it Eric?
Dan
dmaxalliTech 05-31-2006, 12:46 PM 1000 miles? dunno. I can tear it down and make sure its 100% inside. I also have some low mile 1050 converters to go in or I can get a 1056 or 57
IdahoRob 05-31-2006, 01:55 PM What about IdahoRob, doesn't he just have the Transgo/SC converter? He is running some good power with it too... but I think he's replaced clutches a time or two?
Dan
Replaced clutches once before. On this rebuild I also increased line pressure to help hold the power. I tend to do things a$$ backwards though:D .
Listen to the tranny experts, they know there stuff. If you use this truck to make a living, don't scimp, buy the best.
Slick 05-31-2006, 03:27 PM Just think of the money you would lose if you had to be without your truck for a week or two with a broken tranny...;)
I bet you would have an easier time justifying the cost of a better tranny after a cheap one pukes, and you are setting at the repair shop with customers calling wanting something hauled.
Pro400exc 05-31-2006, 11:56 PM 1000 miles? dunno. I can tear it down and make sure its 100% inside. I also have some low mile 1050 converters to go in or I can get a 1056 or 57
how much yah want eric?
Joe
HELLBOY 06-01-2006, 12:46 AM I'm interested as well if PRO400exc doesn't want it.
UpNorthHVAC 06-01-2006, 12:06 PM Im interested too if neither one of them wants it.
dmaxalliTech 06-01-2006, 07:40 PM Lots of PM's on the trans. In all fairness, its not going to be a stage V as the warranty is not transferrable. I will answer PM's in order I recieved them on it.
Pro400exc 06-02-2006, 08:58 PM hey now I pm'd yah 1st....i hope,lol
Geez...i didn't know all these vultures would be in here...
I mean after all i am the one w/ the problem here so back off suckers..lol
BTW...Eric..i don't need no stinking warrenty....
