I get "Service 4WD" in my display after driving for a couple hours straight. Don't have time to bring it in (for the third time) to get it fixed before my camping trip tomorrow. I read before that you can pull the 4X4 fuse or something and it resets? Tried this before and couldn't get it to work. Can someone tell me which fuse it is?
I only have this problem when driving for long periods of time. The light near the 4X4 buttons goes out and it won't work. If it sits for awhile it just starts working again. Of course I don't feeling like waiting in the dark while my buddies make fun of me because I didn't buy brand X and Y instead.

Sounds like the dreaded 4x4 Controller monster is rearing it's head.
Beware of a sudden shift into 4wd Low, that will eat up your transfer casehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif Lots of posts on this, good luck!
I would MAKE THE TIME to go to the dealer!

Pull the 30 amp TREC fuse under the hood to disable 4WD until you can get in to the shop.

WOW, shifting into 4X4 Low while doing 70 mph on the highway. That could be a little dangerous. Guess I'll pull the fuse and call for an appointment now. Thanks for the info guys.

My truck did a similar thing today, although it reported itself as being in 4lo when it was really in 4 HI. This happened at about 80 MPH on the interstate. I called my service department back home and they suggested disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.
The truck went back to 2 HI and has been fine for the last 200 miles. We'll see how it does on the return seven hour trip later this weekend.

I had the same problem..The dealer replaced the TCC module and some other modules and the problem still persisted..... until I told him that the 4 Hi lite goes on and off when I push on several spots on the switch itself. Turned out that the switch had a cracked circuit board and was replaced. Last time I had a problem with that.
