Little help here. Could someone clue me in?

Main difference would be the frame, and engine choices.

Not 100% sure about the rear axle. Rear springs should be different?

I do know that there isn't much of a difference in price for the durability you get.

If I remember correctly, the 2500HD and 3500 are basically the same truck. The 3500 has little differences like bigger springs, hips, duals and Eric said the axle tubes are a little larger. Other than that, same truck.

The 2500 shares the same frame and running gear as the 1500 series trucks. I thought they stopped making the 2500 or the 1500 HD because they were essentially the same truck.

No monster power trains in the 2500. The D/A combo is reserved for a frame big enough to carry the extra bulk.

I'm sure if I missed anything, it will be corrected shortly. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

So. If I get a 2500 with the D/A, then it would be an HD? Regardless of trim or other options.

Yep, It is actually badged as a 2500HD.

If you go to the GM Buypower web site and build your own truck, you can see your options and styles for each.

You can not get the Duramax, the 8.1L, or the Allison in the regular 2500. You must step up to the 2500HD for those options.

Also with those options you get the 11.5" FF rear differential. the GVWR is up from the 8600 on the 2500 to 9200 on the 2500HD. The frame is 2" taller, making it much stronger. I am not sure of the GCVWR but I know it is much higher in the 2500HD. I believe that the 2500 has a GCVWR of 14,000-16,000# depending on transmission and axle ratio, while the 2500HD is as high as 22,000# depending on engine, axle ratio, and transmission. and you can get the crew cab on the 2500HD, and unless they changed the options, the 2500 does not offer it.

There are other differences, but these are the most noticible.Edited by: hdmax

Hey, Sollly. The frame for the HD's are heavier gauge tube. Thicker metal. Makes for a heavier truck. And also, take the weights, from loading. And torque, from the diesel. I work at the plant that makes the tubes, for the hydroforming guys. To see the gauge, and feel the weights of the tubes are quite substantial, from the 1/2 tons, right through to the 1 tons.
