I just bought a '05 GMC Duramax Crewcab 4wd and want bigger tires, lift etc... What are green keys, what do they do, where can I get them and how much should they cost? I'm assuming that they have to do with the torsion bars? Any info would be great.

Green Keys are an aftermarket extra lift for the torsion Bars. They take your stock lift settings to an extra 1-2 1/2 inches of lift. With keys in all the way down it was an inch higher than stock keys all the way up. You can get them alot of diferent places. I like them in my truck, but ride does suffer abit from them. I got an extra 2inches out of them and still can go more.

The green keys i tried to put on my truck yesterday made the upper control arm hit the bumpstop that limits downward travel. I couldn't crank the torsion bar high enough to get the nut back in. Well I probably could have actually twisted the bar to get it in, but it would have made for a really bad ride.

I have had them on my truck for more then 70,000 miles with no problem whatsoever. You can pay anywhere from about $45 for a pair, all the way up to well over $200 just depending on where you get them. I paid $41 probably 3 1/2 years ago at a local Chevy dealership.

I bought mine due to the fact that I could get just 3/4" from cranking the factory ones up. The replacement keys allowed me to set it at 2/14" with the bolt screwed in just far enough so it don't fall out.

The green keys are the factory keys from the 1/2 ton GM 4x4`s 1999 and up.
