Don't ya just love all the safety features built into these trucks! -:t Does anyone know how to disable the automatic door lock feature? I get so tired of unlocking the door when I pull up to a driveway to let someone jump out and the door won't unlock unless it's in park or "you" unlock the door.

It's in my owner's manual. Start there. :)

Unless you have the wrong manual or a very special 2005, it does not tell you how to completely disable the auto locks...which is what he is asking about. :)

Max Bowtie, several people are trying various things (ranging from wiring in relays to trying to get the dealership to reprogram the ECM) to come up with a solution...but as far as I know nobody has had any luck.

Thanks for the information. It would be nice to have the option to turn it off.

2005/2006 trucks you CANT turn it off. Its not in the software to disable it...safety thing. :(

wiring in relays and crazy electrical things wont work; the doors are all locked and controlled by Class II data...so unless you speak J1850 you arent going to keep them from locking ;)

The door lock programming is in the IPC. You can reprogram your instrument cluster with 2003 or 2004 software and that will disable the auto locks. You will loose some of the 2005/2006-specific stuff tho such as Fuel Filter Life % and a couple other things.

Well, seems the various programming functinos I have for the locks are in my owner's manual as I said, but, not the "don't ever lock" type of function. I'm referenceing pages 2-10 through 2-11. Features it references include 1)all door lock when transmission shifted into gear and 2)all doors lock when the vehicle speed is greater than 8 mph.
For unlocking the features include 1)driver's door unlocks when transmission shifted to Park, 2)all doors unlock when transmission shifted into Park, 3)all doors unlock when key is removed from ignition, and 4)no automatic door unlock.

Sorry about the misinformation earlier. I knew they could be reprogrammed but not the exact features because I can't access them due to aftermarket alarm features which override. :)

What year truck do you have? On my 03, I can disable the autolocks using the DIC/steering wheel controls. If you don't have steering wheel controls, I think you can perform this operation with a combination of ignition key and door lock button cycles. The saftey nazis must have removed this feature in the later model years.

I mentioned this in the other thread recently on the exact same subject ;), but what I'd do is look into getting the door latch mechanism (internal to the door) from a POLICE PACKAGE Tahoe. Reason why is that most police package vehicles have a deal where you pull on the interior driver's door handle and it'll open the door....regardless of whether it is locked or not. In other words, just like a Ford ;)

Did this on my Impala SS (using parts from the police package Caprice), works like a champ :D

Good point. It would be intersting to know for sure if the Cop 1500+ trucks are like this. I know there are a few in this area but I doubt I can get my hands on one.

I even called GM about the auto door locks and they said you couldn't disable them. It is a government safety requirement. Good ole Gov. *^%$#@

2003-2004 trucks yes, they could be disabled via the DIC. 2005+ trucks no.

A government requirement? So what do they do on the trucks with manual locks? Include a midget to watch the speedometer and lock the doors at the appropriate time?
