My son and I are rebuilding a '90 K2500 (6 lug) regular cab, long bed with a 350, 4 speed. The other day we were off road and put it into 4 WD to make sure it was working properly. When turning the steering wheel to the locks, a loud clicking sound/popping sound came from the frontend. Backing off of the steering wheel the noise went away.
Now this is my first 4WD so I want the opinion of the experts. What do you feel is causing the popping noise?
The torsion bars have been cranked 1" based on opinions here.
Thanks,

Is this a bad thing? I know it's not good, but is it bad? Do I need to think about changing the CV joints or is this normal?
Thanks....

Check Your Cv Boots And Their Knuckles... Usually They Will Begin To Pop And Grind When They Are Going Bad... Is There Any Tears Or Rips In The Boots, Have They Ever Been Greased Or Replaced? You Might Want To Check That... I've Had Several Cv Joints Go Bad Over The Years From Boots Getting Ripped Or Torn, But Usually You Can See Some Grease Flung Out From Them Unless It's Been That Way For Many Years.... Also, I Have Found It More Efficient To Replace The Shafts As A Complete Unit If They Have Problems Than Just Hoping A New Boot And Some Grease Will Fix It...

DIESELOVERKILL,
Thanks for the words of wisdom. One boot was torn right when we purchased the truck. The truck has been driven less than 100 miles since the tear. I have a new boot that I will replace this weekend. The tear is on the passenger side, but the clicking sounded like it came more from the driver's side. I'll pull that shaft and inspect it.
Thanks again!
