Now before any of you mechanics bash me for this thread keep in mind that i am a mechanic myself. i went to the dealer on tuesday to get a 6000 mile service on my truck. the mechanic was having trouble balancing the tires.:banghead: i talked with the service manager and she said that she thought he was having trouble because the tires are 35". so i said to her, you mean to tell me that my truck is the biggest one that you guys service at this dealership? she said no, we have balanced tires that 44" before and had no troubles. i waited over 4 hours for an oil change and tire rotation.:wtf1: the service manager paid for the oil change.:D  then before i paid i inspected my truck. the dumb*** used an airgun on my wheels even after i told the service writer explicitely not to. then to top my day at the dealership off the mechanic broke one of the crowns on my lugnut clean off. so now the dealer is also getting me a brand new set of lugnuts. trust me, this mechanic was an idiot and a disgrace to other mechanics everywhere. :blahblah:

95% of my dealer experiences tend to go the same way. Well, at least my first and last two dealer exeriences.....Im a fast learner. Now I do all the work I possibly can.

I had only 1200 miles on my 04 DMAX and America's Tire Co. stripped one of my lug nuts when i went to get new rubber. Don't you hate putting your baby into someone elses hands? Monkeys.

I am confused.. If you were a mechanic and were as fussy as most of us are, why would you take it in? I can see not having equipment to balance tires, but an oil change? Just thinking outloud here I guess.

No offense meant or intended, but I'd do it myself to ensure proper job

I am one of those who is mechanically challenged as it were. I am a welder by trade for over 40 yrs now and I hate to work on a vehicle. When I think about the things that I trust a dealer or any mechanic, tire changer at a tire shop I expect them to at least know what the tools are they are using. BUT in my experience I have seen some no brainers happen and when I leave they know why I am not coming back. It is sad that so many people take so little pride in what they do, most of it is just pay me a wage and screw everything else.

I am mechanically inclined and many who call themselves mechanics are usually part jockeys that can swap out old parts for new ones but can't think "mechanically" and will do damage out of lack of experience or ignorance (which might be the same thing).
