After reading of the problems with AFE's intake tube I was kind of glad I had KN&N's FIPK (plastic intake tube). I wrote Kennedy the other day to see if the AFE Pro-guard 7 filter would fit onto the KN&N intake tube. He needed the measurements (which I havnt gotten to looking at yet) but then stated that he personally didnt like KN&N's setup because it relocates the MAF sensor.... His opinion is fine with me...I'm just curious as to what is affected by having the MAF sensor moved? I figure it should be okay no matter where it is....its just a sensor...

What do you guys think? Does anyone know if a AFE filter will fit onto a KNN intake tube?

Thanks! Jason

Some people have problems setting MAF codes once they relocate it.. concensus is not to move it, but FWIW i just installed a airaid intake as i wanted plastic, not metal. it has a relocated MAF and works fine..

I've been running the KNN setup for 15k miles and havnt had a lick of problems with the relocated MAF sensor...I was just wondering if it made any other difference.....I guess I'm just left with finding out wether the filter inlets are the same size....

i can tell you that the AFE element is shorter than the K&N..

i know the airaid unit has a 6" inlet.. i can't believe the size of the cone

Would it help to upgrade to a Granatelli MAF sensor? They say they have faster flow readings and you will gain HP, what is the story on this? Thanks

i believe they are for gassers only..

Well I did some checking and I noticed that Granatelli makes a MAF sensor for the Diesel. Not sure if it will do anything was just curious. Thanks

I checked my KNN today and its just a 4" inlet (4 1/8" actually). The KNN intake is 4" ID, 4 1/8" OD. Filter element is 8" long, nipple to go over intake tube is another 1". The 6" air raid has to be huge! Is the intake tube that large all the way or when/where does it reduce to go into the intake?

The Granatelli MAF sensors have a bad rap with regard to LS-1 gassers. Just an FYI....

A few years ago we did some very extensive dyno testing and track testing on the Granatelli MAF sensor. Run, don't look back if you ever think of buying it, it is total crap (in our opinion) and in all three LS1's that we had dyno'd, all lost power.(two Camaro SS's and one Corvette). JR Granatelli was supposed to meet us at the track several times, but never showed. Then he started to email me personally saying that I was slandering his company and not to ever post something derogitory about the MAF again.

Spend your well earned money on fuzzy dice for the rear view mirror, your car will go faster with them than with the MAF upgrade (actually, you might go a tad faster due to the fact your wallet is a bit lighter)

Granatelli MAF sensors do not work well on Gassers. I know, I have one still in the box. And that is where its going to stay. I had a 2003 6.0l 2500HD CC that I picked a few extras up for and the MAF was a huge disappointment (over $300). It hurt HP. The only things that made a difference on the 6.0l was the Hypertech III and an underdrive pulley. Now that I have a 2003 Duramax/Allison CC LT, I don't have to make the extra HP or pulling torque up. I got it from the word go....I like it!!!!
