My truck is a '02 Chevy 2500HD Vortec 6.0L gasser. Extended cab, short box. I am having difficulity trying to pinpoint which axles I have. I would believe that mine would have the same axles as on Duramaxes, but after doing some searching, several times it was stated that "Duramax and 8.1L gasser has 11.5" rear axle". I know that they both use Allison tranny (for automatic setup). However I am not sure whether if mine has a 10.5" or 11.5" rear axle. Also what about the front axle? 8.25" or 9.25"?

According to the GM service manual for 2002 trucks, it said that a truck equipped with 4L80E tranny has 13.5 quarts capacity. I don't know but it sound like a pretty small volume to me for a HD tranny doesn't it? To keep this simple, what is the total fluid capacity for 4L80E tranny including the filter and torque converter?

Finally, do anyone know the fluid capacity of transfer case? Mine has the electronic pushbuttons but not the AUTO 4WD.

Any information would be greatly appreciated! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Alright, as far as the axles go, you have the 10.5" rear and 9.25" front axles. You are correct that the Duramax and 8.1 get the 11.5" rear axle. The 13.5 quarts is correct for the 4L80E transmission as well. If you were going to flush it you would probably want 15 quarts of oil to make sure you have a little extra. The fluid capacity for the T-case is two quarts of trans fluid. Check out this thread for more info:
