: EGR plate leak??
cosilver 05-23-2006, 12:56 AM I just installed the finger stick and egr plate on my 05 LLY... No SES light BUT.... seems when the turbo kicks in, there is this sort of suction sound coming from the engine... sort of like a hissing - Do I need a second gasket in front of the plate? Also, seems I have lost a little bit of power... could that be related?
nosliw 05-23-2006, 01:06 AM do you notice any soot around the flange?
you could always buy some cut-to-fit cork gasket and make your own to stuff in there.....
i didn't notice any power loss or abnormal noises when i did mine
cosilver 05-23-2006, 01:34 AM No, haven't seen any soot around there... and didn't feel a leak when I checked after installation (but don't know if I would feel anything unless the turbo was kicking in). Also seems that when I punch the accelerator, it doesn't respond as aggresively as it used to (after spooling up).
nosliw 05-23-2006, 01:40 AM maybe take it out and see if it still does it?

Wouldn't it be best to install a gasket on both sides of the plate?
One upstream to prevent an exhaust leak and one downstream to prevent dirt from entering the intake???
I had the same leak. I didn't notice any power loss though. I took the whole thing back out inspected the gasket and re-installed and that fixed it.
Fingers 05-23-2006, 10:26 AM Short of a brand new truck, the flanges need to be cleaned before the plate install. The old gasket sticks to both sides messing up the seal.
cosilver 05-23-2006, 06:31 PM Thanks all! Good ideas... I will remove, clean flanges (although the truck is very new, and the gasket moved easily - less than 4k miles on her), replace and install a second gasket in front of the plate... hope that works. I am out of town, so I'll have to wait 'til this weekend to git'r done.
cosilver 05-28-2006, 03:25 PM OK, I re-adjusted the plate to not drop all the way down, and left the top of the plate just barely showing above the flange - this fixed it - no more hiss! And did not require a second gasket in front of the plate. Also, I regained the power I thought (maybe it was just me) was lost. Only thing hard about this install was removing those d$$n nuts the first time! And I would recommend putting a rag underneath the egr plate area so as not to lose your wrench or socket down the back; dropped mine once and glad I had the rag there to catch it!
Fumunda 05-30-2006, 11:48 AM I just removed my cat, installed the egr plate and finger stick and noticed something similar. I don’t think I have a leak there’s no soot around the gasket. But the truck seems like the turbo kicks in a little later then it used to and has a little less balls. Does the lack of back pressure affect the turbo?
I also noticed that on the 90hp tune that there is almost no smoke which is nice. Smokes plenty on the 160hp tune.
The new sound is amazing =)
cosilver 05-31-2006, 01:19 AM I also did not have any soot around the flange, but the air/hissing sound was loud and clear when I stepped on the accelerator enough to make the turbo kick in. I readjusted the plate, and the sound was gone, and it regained it's power. With me it almost seemed like the turbo was not effective or kicking in at all, but all is better now, and have to admit - it seems that the turbo kicks in sooner with the plate on, and it feels great! How hard was it to remove the cat? That is another mod I am considering, I want to keep my Dmax as stock as possible, but improving the exhaust is something I would consider.

Hmm ill recheck my plate, The CAT / figerstick was very easy. Took me about 3 hours. I had to remove one of the brackets that held on the CAT to get it out and reinstall it when i got the new pipe in.
