wow, what a great site, and ALOT to read! After sitting here for over an hour reading, and searching, ive not found an answer to a couple of problems that have just popped up with my 2003 2500HD dmax/ally.

With only 18K miles on the truck, the ABS light keeps coming on/going off. Doesnt matter what im doing with the truck, towing or just driving. Had it in the dealer for warranty and they first said i had a "shorted out brake module" and that was the problem. Within 2 hours of picking up the truck, it came on again. Took it BACK in yesterday, and they tell me they cant figure out why its doing it and are going to reprogram the ECM. Anyone else have this type of problem.

Also, while in the shop for the ABS problem (on the first visit), i have them look at the tranny because its leaking. They tell me this is the first problem theyve had out of the Ally there. They drop the trans and replace the pump and seal. While they have the trans. out, they tell me that the starter cover is cracked, so they replace that as well. All under warranty of course. And at the same time i carry it back for the above mentioned ABS problem (now the 2nd time back), i tell them, the tranny is again leaking. They tell me they cant tell where its coming from, and theyre putting dye in the system to see if they can find it. Again, anyone else having these types of problems?

Also, i have the Hypertech Power Programmer (which i take out of the system before i take it back to the dealer so as not to lose the program). Its the 3 stage (50HP, 70HP or 90HP) power programmer. Has anyone had problems with this programmer, and do you think it could cause the above mentioned problems? The tech over at Hypertech tells me that this programmer has nothing to do with the transmission because the tranny has its own ECU and the Hypertech works completely around stock configurations, and that there is no way that their product could cause any of this. (of course, what else WOULD they say right? )

Sorry for the long post, what a way for a new guy to come on board the forum ehh?

Welcome to the site ...

I had the ABS problem ... Probably not the same resolve tho ,I had a lose fuse from fooling around in the fuse box on the drivers side in the cab .... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

Leaking tranny ,hows the fluid not overfilled I hope as this will cause a leak in the weep hole area ...

There are a few areas that are susceptible to leaks in the front bell housing area ... Bolt O-rings to sealant and gaskets ...

Keep on them they'll find it ...

If the leak is coming from the front they might have thought it was coming from the pump when it really was coming from the bottom 2 converter housing bolts. They both need to have a copper washer placed under them to stop the leak. There is a problem with case porosity in those bolt holes.

a quick update. Called the dealer this afternoon, they completely reprogrammed the ECU on the ABS issue. Claim to have that straightened out.

On the tranny issue, i called them and they said they were waiting on a bulliten, "something about some copper bushings or something" <~their words. I laughed, and told them yea, amazing you guys have to HUNT for that info, and i spend an hour on the net, and find it. WTF doesnt GM just send that out to ALL dealers when they first issue the damn thing? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

I posted the bulletin in the TSB section.

TClark, you have to cut the dealer a little slack. There is no way they can know everything there is to know about every outfit that GM has built. There are a lot of members on this and the diesel page forums. A lot of them came to the forum with a problem that they needed help with. I do wish more dealerships would use this resource though. Later! Frank

Thanks Frank. Yea, i didnt get on the dealers ass too bad. I laughed with the service adviser and told him how funny i thought it was that i found the TSB before he or his shop did. Picking the truck up this afternoon and its supposed to be fixed.

On the ABS issue, they completely reprogrammed the computer, but said there is also another bulletin that is supposed to be issued by GM with an updated program for the ECU. Apparently there is an issue with alot of the trucks having the ABS light coming on/off intermittently for no apparent reason. Theyre supposed to call me to come back and have the puter updated with the new program as soon as they get it.

Now, i guess i'll have to call Hypertech and ask them if i have a new program different from the original stock ECU, if its gonna make any difference and if they will need to update my powerprogrammer.
