I have the plain ole edge and keep it in level 2 normal and level 4 t/h for spanking. Lately on 2-3 upshift and 3-4 upshift on 1/2 to 3/4 throttle with overdrive locked out....CLUNK!!(2-3) http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gifthen CLLUUNNKK! (3-4)http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wacko.gif. I know there's play in those gears but Dang is that normal? Thank you for any and all posts.

Have you ever limped it? Has it ever slipped on you? Sounds like your pressures are set at maximum. Find someone with a SnapOn scanner, 2001 cartridge, and have them clear the taps and reset them. You do not need a Tech 11 to do this.

Mike is there any other way to clear the taps without using a scanner or tech II? Thought someone mentioned disconnecting batteries or something along that line I thought..

You can clear codes with just about any scanner in the Duramax but you cannot clear and reset taps with anything other than a Allison DOC program or Tech 11 and i have found a way to do it with SnapOn. My $5K Mastertech from Vetronix won't even do it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Never Limped it, never had it slip. Has 20.5k miles on it......finding someone other than a stealer with a scanner.....hmmmm.....kinda like where's waldohttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif! My pressure, if it's maxed....is this bad? I'm just making sure I won't be going tranny hunting cuz my wallet sez it's not the season for it. Thanks again Mike for the responsehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Edited by: DURAMAXED03

We don't know if anything is damaged inside the trans but we do know that your program had something to do with it. (maybe your driving too ?) Usually if the TCM reads slip it will keep bumping pressures till they are maxed. i see this a lot when the Allison has been limped 40-50 times I suggest removing program and clear and reset taps then drive it a while and see how the trans works. If all seems fine, sneak up on her again with the program. Some people say run it in a lower level and it will re-learn on its own. I have not found that to be true unless you can wait till christmas and it might happen by then. I have seen Allisons that were not put into a fast learn (resetting taps) and they had no change after 60 ignition cycles.( My own truck included)

How do you know when you limped the tranny? If it's when the it won't let you go past 2k rpms then never happened. What symptoms does my butt sensor need to feel to know if it's a slipping problem. And last question.....a 90hp edge can kill an alli? Mike I appreciate your post again. Need any advice on the wifey's Lexus....that's who I work for!

There are many different limps, some set off an ses light some don't. Ford has a wonderfull thing called FMEM. (failure management effects mode). That is a limp that will not set an ses light (all the time, drives us nuts) but will allow the computer to revert to a backup program giving us elevated line pressure (firm upshifts and down shifts) GM has has gone a step further timing shifts and Ford has followed suit with their 5R110. They learned this stuff from the Dodge Caravan 1989 vintage.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Dodge updated their TCM at least 26 times and each update removed some smarts from it. What i am trying to tell you is do what i said, you have a TCM that thinks it's an intelligent being ,but was programed by an engineer that drives a 10 year old Mazda (that smokes, probably a rotory) and has no idea what a truck is suppose to run like. If you had a Transgo shift kit and a Suncoast converter, you would not be here posting this question. Go do it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Mine made a nasty clunk down shifting while in tow haul. I have never limped my tranny. wasn't even going fast like maybe 15-20mph. Any thoughts on that?

Do short beds have the grease knobs? It only seems to do it while in tow/haul.
