Traded off my '03 2500HD for this '04 3500 SRW - after 1300+ miles, I'm already getting 2-3 mpg better than my '03 LB7. No noticeable difference in ride quality in the 3500 compared to the 2500HD. Love the extra 8 gallons of fuel capacity. 18-19 mpg empty, 70 mph highway speed, 11-13 mpg towing travel trailer (approx 8000lbs), 65 mph highway speed (after 500 mile break-in period). Taking the truck to the dealer for the rear end maintenance and the 2nd oil change.

My 04 GMC CC Dually Dmax/Allison with 1400 miles on it got 14.9 and 15.4 around town. Just took our first trip pulling a 13000 lb. fifth wheel. It was 360 miles round trip and going I got 8.3 mpg going and coming home I got 7.9 mpg, very disappointed in my fuel milage.

Found out a couple of other 'notewothy' items......
Went to the passenger side to let my better half in the truck, reached to unlock the door with the key (keyless fob was in coat pocket) and discovered that GM eliminated the door lock on the passenger side. Upon futher investigation, I also discovered that there were no passenger side tires, mirrors, headlights, or windows - no wonders I'm getting good fuel mileage, I have half a truck! Seriously, why do the car manufacturers make these cost-saving customer-maddening decisions? I may be in the minority, but I use my key to unlock both sides of the truck often (like when in a campground and don't want to "light up" the area when hitting the unlock button on the fob). And I would prefer to not have to unlock the driver's door, hit the unlock button, close the driver's door, walk around the truck, and open the passenger side door, retrieve the item I want, close the passenger side door, just to get a beer. Also, the 6 inches of windshield tinting at the top of the windshield that has been on my last 15 trucks!!!!!!!!! isn't on the $42,000+ 2004 GMC Sierra 3500. My solution to these idiotic decisions is to make the accountant or engineer that's responsible for the "great" cost savings ideas to sit in the truck, facing a full evening sun for 2 weeks until he/she understands that it isn't a "great" idea. Sorry for the rambling, but even for me with 25 years of service at GM, I can't understand, nor support, stupidity. They should at least be forced to tell you what the changes are from year to year. I didn't even think to check to see if the passenger side door had a lock. Would you?

I too can't believe the lack of the windshield tinting! Heck they've had tinted windshields since the 60's!!! Why stop now? The little dots around the rearview mirror are gonna make tint film be a real PITA too! When did the tint stop? Your '03 HAD it?
I don't care much about the passenger side key thing. But your reasons sound legit. You and about maybe 100 other people in the country. The rest of us would have never known!

I did know about the keyhole , only because I saw it mentioned over on an RV forum. It does bother me a bit, because I am one of those 100 people that use the key hole in that side. I did not know about the tinting thing though, that does kinda bother me....

My last 03 GMC didn't have the tint.
The door lock delete came recently, I saw the dates on GM dealer site but don't remember.
