Does anyone have J & J Enterprises Running boards on there truck. I believe they are out of Ontario, CA. Looking for opinions on how durable they are.

I have the J&J Milleniums on my truck (http://community.webshots.com/photo/72251092/75037517JntVle) and am very happy with them. They are a little pricey and take a while to install but they are top quality & all stainless.

Checkout Steve Cornell's excellent J&J install pics. (http://www.rtol.net/scornell/silverado.htm)

Steves, pics were very helpful for the install as the J&J instructions were not very good. I also used all SS hardware instead of the zinc-plated stuff that came with the J&J's.

I was hoping they would install with some connection to the frame of the truck like a lot of nerf bars do http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif I do some driving on temporary roads and the mud / ice load on these boards could be substantial. I am thinking of getting a body shop to install mine. I don't have a lot of time inbetween jobs. How long did it take to install your boards?

I looked at the J&J's before I bought my Westons Chromed Stainless Tubes.

I have always had the Weston Tubes on my trucks but did not like the way they would pack snow/mud between the tubes and the body of the truck.

Basically the J&J's are the tubes with a top plate welded on which would stop the snow/mud packing. So I was hoping they would mount up the same, but they didnt. I would have bought them but I dont like the way they mount, they "look" flimsy.

I know the Westons are a strong mount. A buddy and I went 4 wheeling back on some trails with his 6 inch lifted Z71. He got a bit sideways in a ditch and almost rolled the truck. We got out and decided to winch out to avoid the roll over. The only thing stopping the truck from rolling over was the Weston bar, it was holding the side of the truck up on a rockhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif. It put a bend in the tube but I know that the truck would have been laying on its side if the tubes were not there.

Just an FYI, IMHO, both look good http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif

No, I have the tubes.

Look in my signature there is a picture there or go to "PICTURES" at the bottom of my signature for better shots.

Im 250lbs. and my boards DONT budge when Im on them. Just because they look flimsy doesnt mean they are. You can always add more stiffeners but they are NOT necessary.

Ditto's... The J&J's are VERY solid. They also took me about 8 hours to install.

I am also very interested in the J&J boards. Unfortunately, there are no distributors around here that have some for me to look at "in the flesh" before I order and I'm hesitant to order them until I have a better idea of the ribs (where you step) on the top. From the pictures on Steve Cornell's installation procedure, it looks like the longitudinal ribs that you step on have a vinyl insert. How many of these ribs are there and what is the spacing between them? Also, the height including the insert looks like it may be 1/2" or greater. Is this a problem when you step on them, especially for a woman with a small foot? Are they slippery when wet? If possible, could you post some close-up pictures so I can get a better idea?

Thanks ever so much for any help that you can provide.

Gary,

There are three "ribs" that have some type of rubber or vinyl insert. They are evenly spaced on the flat stainless steel plate that forms the running board - about 1½ -2 inches apart. Without actually measuring, I would estimate their height to be about 1/4-3/8 inches. The best way to describe them is that they look like body side molding. It has a SS base with the rubber insert and I'm guessing they are held on with adhesive. I haven't noticed any problem with them except that there must be a bit of steel in the base because I've had a slight amount of rust leaching from a few spots in the winter (from the salt). I sprayed some WD-40 on these spots and that took care of it. I believe the intent is for these strips are to provide the boards with an anti-slip surface. Without them the flat stainless top could be slippery - especially in the winter. They also add to the "look" of the boards. I'll make a few measurements and try to get a good close-up picture and post them for you. I also doubt many dealers would stock them due to the cost. From what I could tell they are made to order. I purchased mine from the same vendor Steve Cornel did but they are dropped shipped from J&J to your door.

Gary,

I measured the ribs and they are on 1.75" centers and 5/16" high. I also took the following picture of the drivers side front as follows (sorry the quality is not the greatest ...truck needs a wash http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif)

Hope this helps... http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

Thanks for all the input people!

I went with the J & J Melliniums but only the cab length as I have a Cargobody fiberglass insert in my box all the time so the extra length to step up to the box was not required - and I didn't think the extra length not being attached to anything would lend itself to durability once I have some snow and ice packup in there.

Now I just have to keep 'em shiny!

Yup there on there. Funning thing, the local FOMOCO dealer was the J & J Dealer as well. I had them put them on for me. So there my truck was all shined up with the new boards out front at the Ford Dealer. My buddy saw it and said "what the heck's going on - you trading for a Ford or what"

Final talley was about $750.00 USD installed. Pricey.

Well, I'm still researching running boards for an '05 GMC 2500HD crew cab short bed which I plan to order this fall. I've looked into the J&J Millenium boards (and offer another "thanks" to all who replied to my questions and picture requests) but I'm not sure that I want them without looking into some others first.

Does anyone have the DeeZee Stainless Steel Elite boards on their truck? I would sure like to hear any comments that you have about this particular board and would welcome any pictures of them installed if possible. As with the J&J's, no dealers around here have any in stock so I can't look at them or even see a sample of the materials.

I just can't see myself spending this kind of money for something sight unseen.

Thanks for any help that any of you can provide.

I looked at a lot of boards before I bought. Take a look at the Stull EZ Mount boards. Polished Stainless that looks like a nerf from the side with a polished stainless top with raised traction areas like the J&J's. The also have matching bed boards.

The mount with brackets held in by the body mount bolts. It took me about 1 hour to install. I got mine from Autostyles:http://www.autostyles.com/stullezemountrunningboards.htm

I just ordered a set of Luverne boards for my 02 CC. I also ordered the bed extenders so my "height challenged" wife can reach into the bed. They'll be in on Tuesday, so I'll let ya know how they work out.
