When my duramax idles for awhile, I get a burning oil smell inside the cab. It is strange because sometimes you notice it, and sometimes you don't. I know I am not crazy because friends of mine have smelled it, too. It has been back to the dealer twice, first time they tightened some of the oil cooler lines, second time they said there is a "crankcase vent line" that was run to close to the exhaust causing the smell. There are no signs of leakage anywhere. No drips in the driveway, etc.
I still smell it, though??? Anybody else have this issue? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

what are you using for oil? If its Rotella, get used to the smell. Some other oils also have a smell to them

Whatever came in it? It is new, the dealer changed it when I got it as it had 6k miles on it.

hard to say whats in it then. I would see what they use on there change and after your next change, see if it still does it. As long as nothing is leaking or anything......

I had the same smell with mine it would smell up the cab at idle. I was using kendall super D 15w40 I switched to delvac and the smell went away. when i was using the kendall it would stink right after a oil change. my 92 6.5 has had kendall super D in it since i bought it new 220,000 miles ago. never been back to dealer except for 1 tranney. same pump and same ingectors.I really did not want to switch oils but new truck with oil smell in cab really -ucks!!!
