had a guy around here tear one up, and have had stories about the stock ones not holding up. just wondering if all the guys out there that are putting new trannies in, if they are replacing the stock flex plate. if so where are they getting them from

I think the stock flexplate is fine, there is no aftermarket flexplate nor is there a need for one. Flexplates in an Allison go bad because of wrong torque converter design(aftermarket) or bad installation( wrong bolts) or cross threading.
