I got a 1997 ford F-150 4.6L V8 with 310,000 miles. Its one great truck except for regular maintance I never had anything wrong with it.


Every 5k miles I add about 2 quarts of oil (20/50).


What puzzles me is that I could go 4000 miles and not lose much oil and a 500 miles later I need 2 quarts. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif


Truck does not leak, or smoke white and the coolant level is always the same. This morning I took off the oil cap and it had this white substance mixed with oil on it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif

White stuff on the oil cap indicates moisture in the crankcase. It is usually an indication of a leaky headgasket. You could still be burning oil just not seeing the smoke. Check the spark plugs for excessive carbon deposits. If the oil is burning it will coat the plugs with carbon.
