: end of pull ??
stretch104 05-14-2006, 03:11 PM i was watching some of tomacs videos, and at the end of his runs when he's just spinning he'll what seems to do is throw it into neutral instead of just letting off. does anybody now what i'm talking about??? is this a good way to end the pull or would it be better to just let off.
dmaxlover 05-14-2006, 03:27 PM Yes he is throwing the trans into neutral. He is doing this to prevent the turbo from barking, and possibly blow it up.
stretch104 05-14-2006, 03:34 PM yeah it seems like it would be better on the trans and rearend. you'll see guys let off and the truck stays in full squat until the pry it into neutral that can't be so good.
moss022 05-14-2006, 10:01 PM i have been throwing it in neutral too. seems to be much better "feeling" than just letting out of it. also with the co-pilot, help keep the motor running(if you dont hit the t/h button at the right time, the conveter will stay locked and stall the motor.
dieseltodust 05-15-2006, 08:59 PM Yes Mike shifts into N. It takes a little practice, You have to let off of the petal and shift into N at the same time, this keeps the turbo from barking and keeps you from stalling out the motor because of the TC being locked up. It took me a few times inorder to do it as fluid as Mike does it, but it is the best way. Besides it sounds cool,,,someone standing at the end of the track might think it has a stick trany instead of an auto,,,,,,,,
joelykool 05-15-2006, 09:44 PM with stock tuning and a stock ally, is it better to shift into neutral or just let off the pedal. My cousin wants me to get into pulling, just thinking about my technique on ending the pull.
dieseltodust 05-15-2006, 10:34 PM With stock, just letting off the pedal will open the wast gate, you can also unlock the TC at the same time. But if you want you can practice shifting into N, your motor will only rev to 3200 at that RPM you won't hurt anything. Also if you get into the habit of doing that when you build some power you will have it down patt,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Is there any chance of bumping it into reverse by accident :nutkick:
dieseltodust 05-15-2006, 11:18 PM The Ally is smart enough to know that it is not to go into reverse at that time,,,You should be able to drive your truck and control yourself so you can place the shifter in N without worry, know what you are going to do and at what order you are going to do them when your pull comes to an end,,,,,,,practice, practice, practice
_nar_ 05-16-2006, 12:18 AM Yeah it would just say shift range inhibited, it wouldn't go into reverse.
neversatisfiedmoto 06-01-2006, 01:04 AM are you guys turin off T/h before shifting it into N?
moss022 06-01-2006, 05:23 PM i dont touch it. with my co-pilot, it would keep the conveter locked and stall my motor. i couldnt time the button right so thats why i just use the gear selector, much easier to move and know its been moved
lawnboy01 06-01-2006, 08:38 PM are you guys turin off T/h before shifting it into N?
T/H works for me.
dmaxlover 06-01-2006, 11:30 PM are you guys turin off T/h before shifting it into N?
I haven't shifted into neutral, but yes I turn t/h off otherwise the truck kills.
For those of you throwing the tranny into neutral, Aren't you afraid of going to far and end up in reverse?
Slick 06-02-2006, 07:28 AM Yeah it would just say shift range inhibited, it wouldn't go into reverse.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
dmaxlover 06-02-2006, 05:00 PM I guess I missed that one.
moss022 06-03-2006, 09:47 AM nope! i alow kinda push forward on it to help "lock" in N. if irc, as long as you dont pull toward you with the gear selector it wont go into R. and i do believe that the computer wont let it do that either
